will always be the case because
1) fans can't separate their fandom from realizing its a business for the players
2) the "shut up, you're being paid millions to play a sport" narrative.

You can damn sure believe if his performance was bad and not matching the contract on the other end of the spectrum, he would be cut by the falcons

If he doesn't like it he can always go flip burgers. Or get an administrative job in the Alabama athletic dept.

What makes it interesting is that by and large the average fan SHOULD relate more to and side with labor. But when it comes to sports they tend to side with management.

which is why i always find these threads hilarious

When Julio signed, it made him right at the top in WR pay

Now, after the first 2 years of the contract, his output his still near the top, yet his pay is 9th

His pay pretty much equals his production right now. Dude had 3 TDs all season.

Might as well start an NFL holdout thread with Mack and Donald not being close at all to deals.

I don't blame either one for holding out.

Honestly, since the Cousins deal earlier this year. You are going to see a number of guys going for shorter years and more guaranteed cash.

And if the billionaire owner, and multi millionaire GM doesnt like it they can replace him on their team

Well most people would disagree. PFF, who is mainly respected on here, had him as the #3 WR last year

I have been roasted before, but tds isnt exactly what I judge WRs on

Did he have a few drops? Sure.

But the entire ATL offense last year was a bit of a mess. Add the fact that ATL spent a 1st rd pick on Ridley. I don't Julio for sitting out training camp.

Reminds me of that season that’s calvin Johnson got tackled within the 5 yard like an insane amount of times

If he reports 3 days prior to a game he would get paid for that week, for Jones each game check is around 700k. If they don’t report until within 3 days of the game, they are ineligible to play and don’t receive a paycheck.

I’m sure the Falcons would be happy to raise his yearly salary if he’ll give back the huge fricking upfront bonus he surely got. Almost all of you defending him are forgetting this. He, rightfully, chose a bunch of guaranteed money up front in the form of a bonus. Can’t have it both ways.

Julio’s stance is that he’s only getting $10.5M/year for the remainder of his contract, and the average salary of around $14M puts him behind a bunch of other WRs. I think he’s behind 8 or 9 other WRs in terms of yearly avg.

Most contracts are backloaded. I don’t know the details of all the similar WR contracts, but it is not uncommon for the last couple of years to have the bulk of the non-guaranteed money. Big signing bonus, the lowest salary the first year or two, then the salary escalates yearly is the common NFL contract, especially big deals for upper tier players.

Most players don’t see all of the money from their contracts. Teams will cut players before the contract expires so they don’t have to pay that big salary for the last year or two, or they will resign a player prior to that last year. Teams will either avoid paying that last year, or they will essentially move that money over to a signing bonus for a new deal.

Players rarely see all the money from their contracts. They are either released, or they sign a new deal before it expires.

Julio’s deal is unique. It’s close to a guaranteed contract because the way it is structured. He’s already received the bulk of his money, and he’s almost 100% guaranteed to see the rest because the yearly average for the remainder is low.

It’s hard to compare NFL contracts because the dollar amount of the contract versus the actual amount paid are often very different.

Julio has an argument on the surface because he’s now only being paid $10.5/year, but he’s going to actually take home all his money. Dez Bryant signed a similar deal a year before Julio, and he was just cut, because he had a lot of money left on his deal.

Julio’s deal was very player friendly in the way it was structured when he signed the deal. Now he’s complaining because of the way it was structured because he’s already been paid the bulk of the money.

Julio will probably get a new deal either in a few weeks or in the offseason. However, I bet it will be the opposite of his current deal. It will look good on the surface with a big signing bonus, but the bulk of the non guaranteed money will be loaded on the back end. He will be cut or forced to restructure before he sees that money.

So in your office you’d be fine with sitting at the exact same salary for 3 years despite excellent performance and others in your field doubling your salary?

Which receiver or how many receivers are making $29.8MM this year? Serious question

Might as well just outlaw non-fully-guaranteed deals if players are going to keep pulling this shite

And that is exactly why these players keep pulling this shite every year. They give in to what these guys want everytime.

Do none of these guys in the front office have kids?

Exactly. If it’s neutral, I’m fine with it.
