No, I agree. Given 15 years of distance, the Meier thing is now part of lore. It really really REALLY sucked at the time, and I would punch Rich Garcia in the nuts given the chance, but I do think it shaped history in a cool way. Same with Dekinger's call in 1985.

I don't want an epidemic of bad calls, but one real stinker a decade is kind of cool.

Really? So if it was 1-0 and ARod got the hit. Joe would have run for him. Probably wouldn't have attempted a steal or bunt to get him to 2nd or third? Then a Sac fly and we are tied. Yeah, a 1-0 and 3-0 game are the same.

um arod got that hit with 2 outs in the 9th. but yeah bunting him over and then a sac fly and boom we got a tie game. too bad that's 4 outs.

Still, a lot different pitching in that stadium when you know a home run beats you.

No more ridiculous than a 1 Gm Playoff Gm with WC-2 team, or 5 Gm Series..

I can handle teams not winning divisions making MLB Playoffs, but anything short of a Best-of-7 Game Series deciding things..spits in the face of the game's lore and glory.

Thus, the late rash of 1980 Oakland Raider-esque World Series Champs.

i dont disagree but he is going to give examples at least be factually correct.

and girardi sounded like a whiner. it was a crappy call but it happens. get over it and score a freaking run.

We can go back in history in any sport and see that certain teams got a raw deal. Difference this year is MLB implements replay for offense but neglects to do the same for defense. Why? What if the NFL only did it. Once again Selig proves that he does not think things out completely but instead gets an idea pushes it through with the owners and never thinks of how it affects the game overall. Get it right or just leave it to potential human error. At a minimum do not have a league rep or the umpire come out and make a statement or press conference not even an hour after the play and make excuses about the angle of play. One statement from the league explaining what happened and move on. But a press conference by MLB after the fact with open ended questions makes things look worse.

I don't think he did. He admitted that it didn't cost them the game, and he made a few good points.

The yankees should try scoring a run in the first 8 innings of a game before they complain about umpires.

It's tough to do in baseball. There are things going on away from the ball that can have an impact. It would be hard to regulate.

its way too hard to do on defense. the play in question probably would have been ok but to just open it up to defensive plays is a huge mistake.

Girardi is frustrated. Aroid is back to usual sucky Playoff form sans one magical Kate Hudson BJs year..Jeter hurt..Cano in can..HR reliant..etc..

Tigers served their dues last Fall, and in recent years, this was supposed to be their season before it began. Verlander can essentially bury them Tuesday.

What changes do the Yankees make this offseason? I don't see them resigning Swish instead going after Ichiro/Kuroda/Soriano/Ibanez along with working extension for Cano. Not sure what they will do with Granderson who is a FA next year I believe.

Yeah, I posted that before knowing anything other than he got a hit. They still would have ran for him, it puts more pressure on the pitcher, it still had a direct effect on the game.

Swish walks. Personally, I would re-sign Granderson. Gardner comes back next season. Check the price on Ichiro. MAYBE look at Ibanez as a 4th OF. If they plan on letting Granderson go, I have no idea where to go. Upton, Bourn, Victorino, etc. won't give you Swisher's bat, much less Granderson's. Hamilton does but they won't even nibble on that one.

extension for Cano

Absolutely necessary.

If they get a good trade I think they'll move him but it will have to be a DAMN good one. Otherwise, they're re-signing or extending him. Gardner gives you ZERO power and Ibanez/Jones/Ichiro aren't anything more than 1/2 season stop-gaps. The only prospect off the top of my head that MAY be ready is Almonte but that's a stretch.

They've had a lot of luck grabbing older players or players seen on decline lately (Ichiro, Garcia, Colon, Jones, Chavez, Martin, Ibanez) so maybe go that rout again. Maybe bring in a player like Travis Snider who is going to be a FA and still young and hope Long can work with him. Maybe a some older players who they can get cheap to be stop gaps. Granderson is home run or strikeout now Arod and Tex on decline, even Cano is going to be what 31/32 next year?

Brett I believe is youngest regular of the every day players and he is 29. Gotta start getting younger at some point an they have no idea if Jeter can come back and play at that high level. Every year it seems I say that though and this year he did.

Rotation will carry them next year and they will tear up bad pitching but I think good pitching will eat them alive next year. I don't want a Bourn/Victorino/Hamilton but would take an Upton (Justin not BJ)

Yeah. I would like Justin I just don't want to give up much for him. We've made some good deals lately on paper that just haven't panned out. I'm a little gunshy.
