His only job is to get on base. End of story. Part of baseball and has been for a 100 plus yrs.

Ever see a guy in the outfield say no I didn't catch that ump?

So you're ok with flopping in soccer?
It's a bitch move, but it's not CHEATING. There's a difference.

I'd be willing to bet the every offensive player in the Hall of Fame faked getting hit on the hand or wrist at least once in their careers. Non-baseball players don't realize that this is part of the game just like a left handed pitcher stepping to as open an angle as he can when making a pickoff move to first.

Lost respect for Jeter

I thought Darren Woodson made a good point.
Do you lose respect for a Safety or CB when a pass hits the ground and he gets up and tries to take it to the house?

Do you like flopping in the NBA Karma? Is this just \"part of the game?\"

alright, since we're talking about some stupid bullshite fricking punk moves,
maybe your stupid cheater of a defensive back should have admitted that he interfered.

Ball is tipped. Maybe Jacob Hester should admit he was a yard short both on his touchdown and his 1st down on the last drive in 2007? There is a huge difference between doing something in the spirit of the game and not getting called for it and blatantly faking something that you know never happened. If you can't see that then there really is no sense arguing with someone of your intelligence level. Further, if he had just run to first base I would have way less problem with it than putting on a act like he was in serious pain. That's about as gay as it gets.

Close, but I'd say that getting offended by it is slightly gayer.

I'm not so sure. As one poster pointed out, faking making a catch happens often in football and baseball games and it fits the "blatantly faking" definition to me. No one seems to bothered by it.

On diving/flopping in soccer, I feel that the real problem isn't so much that it happens but simply that it works so well . . . to the point that it's often a "stupid" play to not flop (Robben in final vs Puyol, eg). If Robben goes down it's a PK but he tries to fight through and it's a goal kick instead.

If flopping were called / recognized better it wouldn't really be an issue just like "faking" a catch or foul in basketball isn't such a huge deal because it doesn't work so well. Most would simply call out the players who do it like this thread does Jeter but it wouldn't be a such a game changing issue.

The only problem I have with it is all the acting he did after he was awarded the base, you got the base quit milking it.

I'm not offended I just think Jeter acted like a bitch and I lose respect for him for it.

I don't like the Yankees or even Jeter that much really, but I do respect what he has accomplished in his career. This doesn't undo all that but it makes him look like a bigger bitch than I thought he was.

It's ok because it's just "part of baseball"?

Ah baseballs unwritten rule book. It's ok to cheat like this but roids no. Ok to fake this but Arod shouldn't knock the ball out of someones glove.

Bitch move IMO. I would love to see everyones opinion on this if it had decided a playoff series

Do football players not do this when they trap a ball and pretend they caught it?

Basketball players flopping to take a charge?

And you're acting like it's just a baseball thing. That's completely false.

Although, I also wouldn't have a problem with the Rays putting a ball in his ribs the next time they play.

The fact that people agree with this and don't think this is the biggest pussy move in all of sports is baffling to me.

Baseball outfielder traps a ball obviously, but comes up and acts like he caught. Same with a WR in football.

Do you think this is also a bitch move? If not, what is the difference?

Yes.

The hypocrisy is baffling.
