It was awesome. I don't have a problem with it at all and neither does the media but let's be honest. If Alex Rodriguez did that everybody would be eating him alive.

What say you?

Anyone who has ever played baseball shouldn't have a problem with what Jeter did. I do agree that ARod would probably get some unwarranted backlash if he had done it.

ETA: Although, I also wouldn't have a problem with the Rays putting a ball in his ribs the next time they play.

No problems with the retaliating either. It's part of baseball.

this type of "cheating" is built into the game of baseball, and as old as the game itself.

The cheating is predicated upon a player doing or acting in a way that leads the judge/ref/umpire to make a call that they did not actually see. the onus is on the refs/umps to make the right call, not the player to act in any fashion or rules of propriety.

Is it cheating if a wide receiver traps the ball against the ground and then "pretends" that he caught it? is he supposed to make the refs believe that he made the catch? Or get up and say, "oops my bad. that one hit the ground."

this is no different.

Ah baseballs unwritten rule book. It's ok to cheat like this but roids no. Ok to fake this but Arod shouldn't knock the ball out of someones glove.

Bitch move IMO. I would love to see everyones opinion on this if it had decided a playoff series

I guess people also lose respect when a catcher frames pitches.

This kind of deception is in every major sport. And it's intelligent. Especially when you are in a dog fight for a playoff race.

playing off/selling an ump = okay
physical advantage over other players = not okay.

not that hard to understand.

is a catcher at fault for making a pitch that's not a strike look attractive by framing it? He should just be like, "that was a ball."

Kobe Bryant takes three steps making his move to the basket stops mid play and flips the ball to the ref and walks the other way.

Tim Duncan to the ref after a pump draws his defender in the air, "no ref, he didn't touch me, I just missed the shot."

CHEATERS!

Is it cheating when an o-lineman jumps up because a defender stepped in the neutral zone, even when they're a slot or two over, pretending they caused the false start? Same shite, a "lie" that something happened when it didn't to fool the officials and help your team.

Don't lose a pitch far enough inside to take off a nipple and this isn't a problem. If you lose the pitch that much, you have nothing to complain about if the ump thinks it hit the player when it actually hit the bat.

It's part of the game until replay is used to determine such things (which it will never be). At least Jeter didn't deny anything after the game. Straight up said it hit the bat and that he did some over exaggerating of the pain.

as long as sports rules are dictated by subjective refereeing, this type of jockeying is going to be widespread and in most cases part of the game.

and to me, this type of leeway makes the games interesting, and also certain players great.

John Stockton used to grab another players shorts to keep them close coming around screens. Is he a cheater? frick no.

I see this no different than flopping by NBA players. They make the ref decide, and that's what the ref gets paid to do. It would suck if it decided a playoff game/series.

Not the only 2 things I mentioned. Is it ok for a basrunner to yell I got it behind someone on a popup fly?

Is a foreign substance on a ball, little jelly on the ball ok? What about sign stealing? Baseballs unwritten rule book sucks IMO.

You got no problem with basketball players, soccer players, and QBs flopping to get the call either I guess.

It's crap and anyone defending is a loser. You are probably the same ones who rip soccer for all the diving.

Punters and kickers make the most minimum contact seem like a slam

Basketball players act their asses off as they "draw" a foul

I don't agree with any of these as I've pretty much been a victim of each, but jeter is less bad than the others... I wouldn't call any of them cheaters
