Jerry Rice from 1986 to 1996 was ridiculous

During these 11 years, dude averaged 91 rec-1405 yds-14 TDs. How's that for consistency? Of the 18 receivers that had over 1k receiving yards in 2020, only four had +15yds/rec avg. Rice avenged 15.4 yds/rec for over a decade.
Summary:
1. 10 time 1st team all-pro. And this is across the board with AP, sporting news, pro football writers, pro football weekly. He didn't make it 1991. I guess they got tired of voting Rice for all-pro because he led the league in receiving TDs.
2. in 1987, he set the NFL record for most receiving TDs for a season(22) by playing only 12 games. He scored in every game he played and did it on only 65 catches.
3. Missed only 4 games. Started all 16 games for 9 straight seasons from 1988-1996. This is impressive given that WRs weren't protected as they are now.
4. Led the league in rec yards 6x, rec TDs 6x. 4 times he led the league yds and TDs the same year.

If he grew up with premium sports nutrition and training, went to IMG and a great modern college program, he would have been even better.

Jerry Rice being the best receiver of all time, and Wayne Gretzky being the best hockey player of all time are the two easiest GOAT discussions.

My favorite Jerry Rice stat is still the fact he has 185 receptions, 2509 yards, and 12 TDs after turning 40.
All other NFL players have 2 catches and 4 yards after turning 40. Those catches...1 by Brett Favre and 1 by Tom Brady.
Rice's longevity is absurd. His stats in his prime are absurd. Rice was just ridiculous.

The story of how he developed the greatest receiver hands in NFL history is special. Sitting a top scaffolding working for his brick layer father. They would throw him multiple bricks from all angles and heights and he learned to catch softly at a young age.
GOAT work ethic. He’s probably still running that hill in SF.

Additionally, one of Bill Walsh’s books has a story about his rookie year and on that’s amazing. He would run every single catch in practice to the end zone and then back. The vets thought he was crazy.

Someone who never watched Rice play.

Rice was a phenomenal athlete. Still pisses me off that Warren Sapp took a cheap shot on him in the end zone after a touchdown and blew out his knee.

Jerry Rice’s career numbers are ridiculous:
Dude had two different hall of fame careers:

Career numbers to age 30:
610 reception, 10,273 yards, 16.8 YPC, 103 TDs
Career numbers after turning 30:
939 reception, 12,622 yards, 13.4 YPC, 94 TDs

When Rice was 40, he had 92 receptions for 1,211 yards and 7 touchdowns.
No receiver will put up those kind of numbers at the age of 40

There’s an Alabama fan on this board that doesn’t think Rice could see the field there

For Rice to put up those kinds numbers when the league wasn’t pass friendly was pretty impressive. Back then you may have one or two QBs throwing for 4K yards. Now, over one third of QBs throw over 4K every year. The modern game is design to help the passing game. Even with that, you look at yds/rec and you’ll see a bunch of the top guys having 11 or 12 yards a catch. A lot of dinking and dunking. Compare that to 80s- mid 90s, WRs had a higher yds/rec. A lot of going over the middle and earning your yards.
Think about this. Antonio Brown’s in this modern day pass happy game never had 14 receiving TDs in a season before 2018. Rice averaged that for a decade. Larry Fitzgerald has 1 season where he had over 15 ypc.

One of the best, if not the best, and a great all around guy to boot

Stats prove his status. Period.
The fact that he spent his teenage years catching bricks in the metropolis of Crawford Mississippi and played college ball in Itta Bena define his story. Combine that with his longevity in the NFL - in a period that was not friendly to relievers - solidify him as the best receiver to ever play the game.

He was drafted #1 in the 1985 USFL draft.
He was drafted #16 in the NFL draft.
Rice's favorite player was Steve Largent.
He’s one of two players who have been named first-team All-Pro 10 times.
Jim Otto is the other.

It happened behind the line of scrimmage on a reverse.
