Jay Bilas wants 32 team super conference... but how would that work for basketball?

Jay Bilas:
Like many on the SEC Rant and MSB are hoping for, sounds to me like Jay Bilas also wants a 32 team super league that breaks off from the NCAA and establishes their own rules, pays players, collective bargaining, no academic requirements, etc.
Here is my question though, how does this work for basketball?
I don't think Kansas or Duke make the 32 team cut, especially if football is the deciding factor. Basketball schools like Indiana or Arizona would also be in trouble. The most recent national champion would have a decent chance to not even make a 64 team super league.
How would strong basketball only programs like Gonzaga or Xavier factor in, or strong basketball programs like Villanova that have FCS football?
Would there be basketball only invites to this super league? Say Kansas or Duke get excluded from the super league. Do they refuse the a basketball only olive branch if offered because they don't like being treated as a second rate athletic department?
How would a postseason work? March Madness is worth more than the college football playoff. I've seen proponents of this super league answer this question by proposing an NBA style format where teams play 3 game series against each other in an 8 to 16 team bracket. Does anyone honestly believe this would generate anywhere near as much interest and revenue as March Madness? March Madness is successful because of the 64 team bracket that gets the casual fan engaged. I don't see the casual fan engaging in a smaller field with series.
If the schools in this super league only play each other... would they pay former P5 schools who didn't make the cut $$$$ for one way buy games in non conference play similar to how buy games are paid out to FCS schools in football and SWAC schools in basketball?

"If I were the SEC and the ACC, I'd merge. And I'd form, essentially, the NFL and the NBA, and have a 32-team conference. You'd essentially only have to play each other, and it would be the dominant force in the college sports landscape. You're going to see the 'top teams' playing only each other going forward."

I’m not even done digesting moving to pods, can we chill on this shite for a minute?

Why would garbage like Vandy, GT and Wake get in to this super conference?

Only playing current SEC and ACC teams would get real old real fast.
Also, for a guy who is always crying about how poorly athletes are treated and how college traditions are being destroyed wanting two major conferences to completely close themselves off from everyone else is massively hypocritical.

He just sees the writing on the wall for the ACC. No benefit to the SEC doing that.
If they want Clemson and Florida St, they’ll take just them sometime down the road.

so many basketball champs from catholic schools with no football or d2 football or club football.
many baseball champs not p5.
hockey champs from small schools in states along the canadian border.
lacrosse big boys include schools with no football or not big time.
therefore it seems likely that except for football current conferences work fine.

A big reason people love college football is when games like App St beating Michigan happen. Remember when Texas Tech was the no.2 team in the country and beat Texas and how fun and crazy that game was? If these people get there way we will never have CFB moments like that again. These ESPN pundits really do hate the spirit of college sports and definitely only worship the dollar.

Is probably best if they leave the other sports alone and only make these changes for football.

Bilas is trying to save Duke by throwing this out there.

Jay Bills can choke on a dick

I don’t like the guy a whole lot….but he’s pretty much spot on here. They join and everyone else is on the outside looking in. It’s where we are going anyway.

Oh and college sports are on the fast track to ruin and being really uninteresting.

Bilas was a one trick pony. He spent every waking moment talking about players getting paid and neglected paying attention to anything else.

I truly believe it will be a nation wide 48 team association / conference.
Everyone not in that 48 will realign and have their own group.
Schools like Miss St, Vandy, WF, TCU, ISU, OSU, KSU, etc about to feel the pain

First step in the long route to a promotion/relegation system

Golden,
It won’t. There will never be a conference structure that keeps BB programs like Duke UNC Kansas Cincy Gonzaga in the same tier of FB programs like Bama LSU Ohio St & Clemson.
We should just admit college is minor leagues for the NFL/NBA & let each individual college sport operate in whichever league is best for them.
Kentucky Duke UNC should have their own BB league & none of those should be playing FB with Bama LSU Clemson.
