His parents separated so he could be eligible as a transfer according to GA state high school rules

Moving to Georgia wasn't a problem for Randy, who retired in 2012 after working for 32 years with the Los Angeles Police Department. Yvonne, who works as an administrative assistant, had to remain in California for her job. For Jake to be eligible for one season at Valdosta High, Randy and Yvonne legally separated to meet the Georgia residency rules. According to court records, Randy and Yvonne dissolved their marriage on Aug. 20. They plan to get back together once Jake's season at Valdosta High ends.

"The requirements [are] a full family move, so that and, obviously, grades and that kind of thing," Randy said. "So, at this point, we got a legal separation. We're right down the guidelines as far as being eligible to play."

Tech already has a QB so not a big deal to us.

He will sign with UGA and then transfer so that the recent trend of 38% of P5 schools having a UGA transfer QB can be maintained

Miami appears to be the trendy flip candidate.

Do they have any other kids? Bizarre move to break up the family unit even if it is only for a couple months just so your son can play football.

This happens all the time with baseball. Dad and son will move from colder climate down to Florida, leaving mom and siblings behind, so their son can play year round baseball. Been happening for decades

I agree and on the surface, I would say that I would never do that. But my son is not a top rated QB whose marxist state government is on a power trip so much that it will impede his ability to shore up a full ride at the college of his choice. Maybe my wife and I would put on the ruse of a legal separation in order for him to play in another state, What is more interesting to me is that they are going that distance to let him play this season. Rush Probst effect at Valdosta. That dude has a shadow following him a mile long but he keeps getting prime HC jobs. He will do anything to get Valdosta back to winning state championships.

I have to feel sorry for the kid who he is replacing on the team. Kinda sucks that he's put in all of this hard work to get his shot (and perhaps earn a scholarship offer) only to have some national recruit come and take your spot.

You would think you might keep some of this to yourself if it was all around eligibility rules. "Yeah we are lying so Jakey can play football"

It was obviously a family decision and I would assume the son was involved.

Don't see it has a big issue other than he chose to play for a creep like Rush Probst

I don’t know. The family invested a shite ton into their kid making it. Kind of like Tua’s family.

The Dad is retired and it's not like the entire family
packed their bags and moved...plus it isn't like Valdosta isn't a affordable place to live.Im assuming they think this move will pay off with more offers and his QB development.

I didn't see his numbers the other night but it looks like they beat a solid team (Warner Robins) I would like to know what he thinks about the competition in South Georgia compared to California.

The guy has one decent game against a terrible FSU and suddenly Tech doesn't need a high profile qb anymore
