It’s been discussed, but I got kinda sad today thinking about my decline in CFB devotion

For most of my life as a fan, I’d wake up and watch every hour of college gameday. I could name every starter on the team and most big starters on teams in the conference and top teams nationally. I’d buy piles of the preseason magazines. I’d check bleacher report and cfn.com daily during the summer to see if they uploaded their predictions.
Now, I couldn’t even name every starter on my own team.
Part of me thinks it was going to happen regardless of Michigan’s decline. Because I’m losing interest in general. It happened gradually to the point I didn’t notice it until it became so apparent.
I am struggling to understand why it happened. I don’t think getting older is the answer, because I know plenty of guys up there in years who are still absolutely obsessed and could tell you anything.
I’m going to try to become a Superfan again this year, but it is a weird feeling having to force myself to do it.
I mean, I remember back when I would be like a kid on Christmas morning on the Thursday before opening Saturday, when some random teams would be playing and i would watch every second.
Seeing stadiums get less occupied year by year is discouraging.
I want to be a zealot again

Ahh yes, I remember the hours and hours the national set aside this summer to discuss your CFB devotion

Does it coincide with your Biden administration devotion?

I think it is more due to his sky is falling every time Michigan gives up a first down. Dude is more negative than Nega Tiger fans. But his melts are quality.

Oh yeah Reauxl we got to the Pizza place just about the perfect time. If Bryson does not miss that putt we end up having the Mexican make our pizza at the place last night, he never puts enough sauce on the pizza.

I mean you can only take so many commercials and overwhelming analysis of EVERY stinking play. How many commercials do you think there are during a football game now compared to 25 years ago. You don't even get the vibe of the stadium atmosphere any longer. Easy to get sour when you are sitting in the stands for 5 minutes waiting for the commercial referee to get off the field to let play start again.

2019 rejuvenated me, I was resigned to the fact Bama would be unbeatable as long as Saban is around.

This is the answer. And it happens to all of us.

Funny, my interest has risen.

Well, considering this is OSU’s golden age (likely exceeding the Woody Hayes era imo) that isn’t surprising.

Alabama dominating the SEC has taken a lot of the fun out of it.
Nick Saban turns 70 this year. The light is at the end of the tunnel.
Balance will return when he is gone.
I know bama fans want to see him coach like this until he’s 80 but it’s very unlikely. Coach K, Bowden, and Paterno all slowed down in their early 70s. Coach K is 74 and set to retire.

In order for CFB to reach the level of “fun” it once was, the following has to happen:
1) Bama will need to take a step back.
2) A team or two in the ACC will need to rise up and be real challengers to Clemson.
3) A team or two in the PAC will need to become serious contenders nationally.
If that happens you are looking at a more balanced and unpredictable CFB.

This is the answer. Those guys are outliers

That, and the lack of parity at the top. It's Bama, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and that's it. These four teams have taken up 20/28 possible playoff selections.
It's a cakewalk for Clemson every season to make the playoff. It's essentially a one-game season: don't lose the ACC championship game. The scores in those games, you ask? 42-35 in 2016, 38-3 in 2017, 42-10 in 2018, 62-17 in 2019, and 34-10 in 2020. Out of Clemson's last 58 regular season opponents, only ten have finished the season ranked. It's ridiculous how predictable college football has become, and downright depressing too.

I feel the same way. I went from 12-12 every Saturday and counting down the season to now I have 3-4 Georgia games I plan my Saturdays around and the rest of the season I just watch if there’s nothing else going on. Fall Saturdays are special and it’s a waste of time to watch TV all day

Michigan football will do that to you. At least you can look forward to hoops.
