It’s good for the league long term.

FYI: There’s a Secret Society of Small Market Teams (Pelicans, Thunder, Pacers, Hornets, etc) that meet at an undisclosed location once a year. Have a creed and everything.

Who cares. They rigged the draft, they deserve nothing but bad things to happen to them.

Based on current population, Indianapolis is the 13th most populous NBA city and Oklahoma City is 16th.

It's much more about media markets and popularity outside of their respective geography, not actual population.

ETA:

I don't watch much NBA anymore, but I'll watch this finals.

I bring this up every time there is a debate about championship game ratings:

The only people affected by ratings are network executives and people who buy advertising for big brands. If you don't fit in either category, why do you care? You won't get a check if a bunch of people watch or have to pay if the audience is small. If the Pelicans were in the NBA Finals, I wouldn't give a rusty frick how many other people were watching.

I don't think people really care, it's just an observation. At least I don't care. It is interesting to talk about though.

The first game of the series means the rest of the series is MUST Watch TV. Hope every game is that good.

I’m not interested and the finals are the only games I will actually watch each year. Usually don’t watch until game 4.

The NBA sucks in general though.

Least watched Game 1 ever

quote:

Game 1 of the 2025 NBA Finals averaged a 4.7 rating and 8.91 million viewers on ABC, making it the least-watched Game 1 of the Nielsen meter era (since 1988) outside of the league's COVID-19-fueled ratings nadir in 2020 and 2021, according to Sports Media Watch.

I knew that was gonna happen. A lot of people missed a real good game.

The media constantly telling everyone OKC will crush them and it won’t be competitive at all certainly didn’t help. I bet game 2 and 3 will have a larger jump
