Fair enough. He'd be in my top 10 "reasonable list." But I'm not all that fired up to hire a coach who is almost 60.
PRESEASON TOP 10
1 Florida
2 Texas -coach older than Butch
3 Oklahoma
4 USC -coach older that Butch
5 Alabama - coach older than Butch
6 Ohio State
7 Virginia Tech -coach older than Butch
8 Penn State - coach older than Butch
9 LSU - few months younger
10 Mississippi

But those aren't the 10 most desirable coaches. I would have no interest in Nutt or Beamer, for example. However, a guy like Brian Kelly, whose team probably won't crack the top 10, would be more desirable.

Like I said already, I think Butch is an old 57. But it's one thing to be kinda old and already entrenched at your current university. It's another to take over a new program. You want someone young and energetic taking over a big-time program. Especially since recruiting is so vital.

no, but i was like 9 or some shite. i readily admit that i don't remember any specifics so that comment was irrelevant.

Thinking about a reasonable top 10, here are some names that come to mind, in no particular order.
Chris Petersen, Brian Kelly, Steve Sarkisian (and he would have been on the list before the LSU game), Charlie Strong, Jeff Tedford, and Bud Foster.
Butch would definitely make by top 10, but maybe after all of those guys except Foster.

You're funny, man.
With approx 2:30 left in the game and one Miami timeout left, OSU faced a 3rd and 6. Gamble ran an out route. In the process, he was clearly held trying to run his route. He broke off of it, though, in time to catch a ball as he was diving near the sideline, in bounds. The ref incorrectly called it incomplete, though (to go along with the missed hold) and OSU was forced to punt, leading to Miami's tying FG (on the return, there was a block in the back by a Miami player on Hawk, as well, that I forgot about til just now). If that's called correctly, OSU would have needed only one more first down to run out the clock. If they wouldn't have been able to get it, Miami would have gotten the ball with no timeouts and about 30 seconds left.
17, not that it matters at all. I could be a day younger than you, and it wouldn't make a difference.
Considering I think USC will beat us by 10 this week, yes, I'm a huge homer.
I do find it funny, though, how just the other day you were complaining about the OSU posters on here, because every now and then, we'd have OT-like posts/non-related to the thread posts on the MSB. Nice hypocracy, douche.

Best recruiter @ Miami- Butch?
Best recruiter @ UNC- Butch?

not being a hypocrite, there should be an age limit on this board because just about all the young posters on here have no clue what they are talking about
see: yourself, rockchalk, etc.
the refs handed OSU the game. You only think otherwise because a)you are an OSU homer B)you are 17 which makes you more likely to be an even bigger homer.
im done talking with you

you thought sheron collins was the best PG in the nation
Posted on 9/9/09 at 11:20 pm to Lester Earl
i specifically remember saying he was in the top 3 and better than calathes. both of those can easily be argued to be true on the college level (which was what was being discussed).
also specifically remember saying he was more important to his team than the other guys which is also arguably true.

Way to completely ignore my facts. "The refs handed OSU the game because I said so. Nevermind the fact that that call in OT should have never even happened, because the game should have never gone to OT, except for a ref's terrible call against OSU earlier. I'll just completely ignore that, because only Miami could have possibly been screwed, not OSU."
I think otherwise, because it shouldn't have. Do you even know the play I'm talking about? Did you even watch the game?
Feel proud of yourself that you got owned by a 17-year-old. I find it hilarious you won't even look at my point or debate it. Because you know I'm right. You know the game shouldn't have gone to OT, and you can't give it up. Most people will, even if they're wrong, at least try to argue the point made by the other poster, or admit they were wrong.. You just ignore it, which is pretty pathetic.

Here's the play. Go to the 50 second mark in the video for the best look. Then tell me I'm wrong.

Why is the fact of the probation that Miami was on and the complete retooling of the Miami program to shed some of the Ericson stuff left out of this conversation?
Posted on 9/9/09 at 11:41 pm to Lester Earl
I think OSU deserved to win that game regardless. Bottom line is the Canes had 4 downs to punch it in from the 2 to send it to 3OT (or win it if they convert a 2) and didn't convert.
But Miami was the best team in the nation that year, that was just a lucky game for the Buckeyes.
I also honestly believe Miami was the best team in the nation in 2001 as well, and deserved a shot over Florida State.
It's just bad luck that that 3 year run came away with 1 title.
