I lived through something 1/100000000 what this girl went through with online rumors becoming IRL rumors around BR.
Most normal people would have lost their mind just going through what I went through. This girl is much more innocent than I was and the impact was 100000000x what mine was. People STILL bring up the bullshite 16+ years later.
Like, was that as difficult as my dad dying a month after being diagnosed with cancer and hearing his death rattle the night he died after his MD Anderson discharge? No, but that's not normal, either. Other than those sort of incidents, what she went through is beyond what most normal people have to go through.

I would say he will be fine in court but maybe not the court of public opinion. I think two of the requirements for a civil judgement would be actual malice and knowing you're proliferating a lie. He just read a news story that he didn't write.

No she is not destitute living on the street selling her body for a crack rock
But she is an 18 year old non-celebrity that became an internet sensation over night out of nowhere for allegedly fricking her boyfriend's dad, out of a rumor on a college app, and had to leave school and have her entire life uprooted. Now for the rest of her life anyone that just looks up her name will know it. Random people that meet her will know it. Everywhere she works SOMEONE will have heard about it and let everyone else know.
It is obviously a pretty massive moment in her life that is negative.
