I've never taken part in voting for driver of the day, is there a write-in slot? Would love to see Spinny McSpinface win DotD, courtesy of The Internet.

Surprised it isn’t Tom Wilson

I mean, he sucks as a driver right now, but lets not act like Lewis Hamilton could get much better than 18th with a Haas car. Haas bailed on this season and its obvious Schumacher and Mazepin should have just stayed in F2.
Haas couldnt give 2 shits this year, they just took Mazepins money.

Well, there’s a lot of lurkers. I figure for every post writte , there 9 non posters who’ve read it. With that being considered, even if only like 10-20 posters know of him, a few hundred readers could possible

The Haas focused episode(s) of Drive to Survive next season are going to be lit. Can’t wait.

How many people on this board do you think know who this is or know why this person is disliked?
I need the clifs I am interested now.
1. How is he racing if he sucks so bad?
2. What is his future? Like will he be racing next year?

On Sunday He finished something like 40 seconds behind Schumacher… and you know that because of daddy’s money, his car is going to be the one with the most updated aero bits.
Pretty sure Michael Schumacher's kid isn't hurting for money or connections either.
Aren't most of these F1 drivers rich kids who have been coddled and brought up in the sport from the moment they could climb into a go-cart?
I don't really follow the sport much so who knows.
From what I saw this kid came up through F3, F2 and testing with decent results. That's the normal route isn't it? Are people on him because he's Russian and a dumb rookie?

His dad is a billionaire and bought his seat on HAAS by investing in the team. Lawrence Stroll did the same for his son Lance but at least Lance is a decent driver.

Mick Schumacher won F2 last season. He earned his seat and the new German investor for HAAS had a condition that the team had to have a German driver for them to invest.
For those that might be slightly interested in F1 take the time to watch the Drive to Survive series on Netflix. It chronicles the 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons. Just skip the last three minutes of season 3 and Lewis Hamilton if you are easily offended by social justice positions.

Drivers buying their way into F1 is not new. Sometimes they're solid, like Lance Stroll currently. Sometimes they're all-timers, like Niki Lauda. Sometimes they outright suck, like Mazepin.
Unless he figures out how to drive in F1, his future in the sport depends on how long his father is willing to continue sinking money into it.

Honestly, other teams aren’t going to put up with him remaining for much longer if he doesn’t show considerable improvement. He’s considered a danger to other drivers and as show last Sunday when he almost took out Perez.

The Big Lie of F1 is that they are the "best drivers in the world." In any year, I would say they have maybe 6-8 "best in the world" level drivers at most, a bunch of average drivers who eventually end up in IndyCar and are just as average there as they are in F1, and a couple of crappy-to-OK pay drivers.
Aside from the guys with rich daddies, some guys are from countries with no drivers in F1 so they are able to get corporate sponsorship (for "national pride") to buy their way in. Pastor Maldonado was supported by Venezuelan oil, which guaranteed his grid spot despite all of his famous crashes.
Back in the day Andrea de Cesaris was a famous crasher ("Andrea de Crasheris") who overstayed his welcome because of personal Marlboro sponsorship. I don't know what the connection was, but a corporate sponsor can do wonders for your racing career.
The most infamously bad F1 driver in memory is Yuji Ide. He lasted four races before he was demoted by the team for atrocious driving, and then the FIA pulled his Super License.
Will MazeSpin compete with Ide for worst driver ever?

Not to derail the laughing at Mazepin, but didn't Lauda earn his way into F1 on his own?
His family was rich, but I thought they wouldn't support his racing career, so he had to take out loans and win races just to keep going. I could be missing part of the story, but it wasn't like his daddy bought an F1 seat for him.

Also supposedly he was mid pack in F2. But yeah. Mid pack F2 is not even close to deserving of a seat.
sad Albon noises

F1 fans are just trolling F1 now... I think this was the second race in a row they voted him driver of the day and forced F1 to override the vote.
That's awesome.

This also happens in nascar, though to a much lesser extent. Paul Menard being the most recent example.
Posted on 5/5/21 at 5:43 pm to TouchedTheAxeIn82
I think a part of that is due to the technical know how needed to drive the cars. i.e. they may not be the most overall talented but their ability to handle such....... freaking weird cars is kinda what separates them out. That’s why the talent channel is so weird vs other auto circuits

Nah nah nah, just so happens the best drivers in the world are genetically disposed to being good.
Verstappen, Sainz, Mick, Leclerc (Bianchi), KMag, Rosberg are just the recent ones. Doesnt even really touch on the royal families of F1
Imagine how good Kvyat's kid is going to be with Piquet blood and Max raising the little bastard.
