Bryant holds or shares numerous NBA records:
The majority of those are "youngest player to x" records, and they're just about all in the process of being broken by Lebron. Not impressed

Grant Hill was pretty much as good of a player pre-injury as LeBron is now. Two differences: LeBron is much more physically gifted and the league is weaker as a whole.

Who gives a shite about Assist to turnover ratio? People associate assists with quality passing way too much. You can be a great passer and not get a lot of assists and you can be a mediocre passer and accumulate a lot of assists.

quote:On like a 40% usage rating. It's a really nice feat, but that doesn't give him Top 10 status. There is more to the game than ppg and more to peak than 1 season in my opinion. I need 2-3 years of that kind of level. Even in '07 Kobe's PER was only 28 and WS48 was .224. It's a very, very good season, but not necessarily enough to give him Top 10 status.
Kobe averaged 35 ppg in 2006. That was the highest ppg total since Jordan averaged 37 ppg in 1987.
Also, that's the most ppg by a guard not named Jordan in NBA history.

If Kareem isn't top 5, you are a child.
Kareem is the Goat CBB player of all-time, probably high school and hard to argue against -top 5 NBA let alone top 10.
Kobe is anywhere from as high as 8 or down to 15 depending on your fanboy status...but he isn't top 5...no way.
Great post

In thinking/looking over my top ten list, I have Kobe Bryant at exactly 10.

Anyone that doesn't think Kobe is a top 10 all-time player doesn't know shite!

don't even know where to start with this one...
#10 is pretty laughable..
Bird that high is a strange opinion..
Malone top 10?..meh
so much more left to debate so many tired figure strokes on my keyboard

I think Kobe is in the discussion for top 10 fo sho. But putting grant hill on the list damages your credibility.

People keep referring to Kobe's shooting percentage as a negative. But he takes an extremely high number of difficult shots a game.
Yes. Kobe wil force some terrible shots when he is tripled teamed, but just as many of those shots are taken at the end of the shot clock when he has no choice.
Watch a Lakers game. The Lakers offense will attempt to run some plays for other players during an offensive possession, none of which work. Then with 4 or 5 seconds on the shot clock, the Laker players are like, "Oh frick! We aren't gonna get an easy shot off before the clock expires! WHERE'S KOBE?????"
Then they throw the ball to Kobe who is tripled coveraged 29 feet away from the basket and he has 3 seconds to try and bail them out of that possession.
The fact the he makes as many of those shots as he does is amazing.
That scenario happens a few times a game.

Guys, top 10 status is not debateable for Kobe.
Top 5 status certainly is debateable, but he is somewhere in that range.
IMO he falls somewhere between 4-7.
Jordan, Kareem, Wilt are above him. LeBron is or will be eventually. Then it is debateable among a handful of others.
I will put Kobe at #5. I think he gets the nod over Magic, Malone, Russell, Dream, Duncan. For the combination of his peak and longevity.
