Is Kawhi the greatest pro athlete to ever play for a team for 1 season?

Cant think of another guy in major pro American sports who played for a team for one year, led the team to a championship as the best player, and then dipped. Kawhu might be the most revered Raptor ever and he didnt even spend a full calender year with the squad.

Ton of baseball players that were traded mid season then dipped

Carlos Beltran 2004 Houston run was pretty outrageous

1.5 OPS 8 homers 21 runs on 46 plate appearances

I can't think of another. Usually if a player is signing one year deals, he's a veteran at the end of his career, probably a role player. What Kawhi did just isn't done often, let alone as successfully as he did it.

Hakeem played a year for the Raptors but it obviously wasn’t in his prime

If we’re talking a player in their prime it’s hard to think of another in the NBA

Whoa there tiger. They had a better record in the games he sat out then the games he played. and then they were gifted a title by the most injury luck in sports history.

CC Sabathia's half season run with the Brewers in 2008 was amazing. He was 6th in NL MVP voting despite only making 13 starts for the Brewers that year.

There’s definitely some MLB examples because of how the trade deadline works. Beltran, CC, Randy Johnson, Manny Ramirez off the top of my head. That’s a different dynamic though

I guess Manny played more than one year with the Dodgers though

In terms of all around success, yeah, he's got to be it in the NBA.

My favorite NBA short timer moment will always be Rasheed Wallace's one game with the Atlanta Hawks.

Deadline deals for stars seem to be way more common in baseball.

If Favre didn't come back for the second Minnesota year, it would probably be him.

I like the Kawhi choice.

Deion like someone else said is another good one.

didn't Randy Johnson only last 1 year in Houston and go like 10-1?

Yeah he absolutely dominated. Was a free agent at the end of the season and signed with Arizona

Betts could be on this list if baseball happens and he leaves the Dodgers after this season

1998, I went to some of those games with my chums that live in HTown.

Thought the Stros were gonna maybe be able to keep him.

Good call on Kawhi. And the reason it stands out so much, is the monopoly of how few NBA franchises historically have hardware, and/or modern hardware. And Tor having a mediocre playoff history until last Summer.

Either Deion with the Niners or Spencer Haywood’s rookie year in the ABA both won every award one could possibly win
