I support the Irish in the decision we made… I’m proud of my University for standing up to this Corrupt System.
Please, this mentality is more woke than a black female’s essay to apply to for Harvard.
No one is a victim in this system. Until last year, none of Alabama, Miami, or Notre Dame would have been talked about as having an opportunity to play for a national title.
All A4 schools and Notre Dame have ample opportunity to make it under this system.

Many don’t even belong in college, but they are pushed into it anyway.

Jobs have limits, don’t they?
If you had a boss who kept adding more hours for no pay, would you like it? Bowl games don’t make sense anymore. Players play enough already.

Yall are not real football fans. Nothing special should have to be on the line. Good, competitive football is entertaining.
And therein lies the problem. Lots of players opt out and that includes many of the ones who contribute the most to the teams success that year.
So you wind up with watered down teams playing each other and that's usually not "good competitive football".

High school players play more than the college kids. Louisiana High Schools play a scrimmage game, a jamboree, a ten week regular season schedule, then the playoffs.
These college wankers get paid to play and they can’t wait to opt out.

Notre Dane is the corrupt system. YOU BEAT NOBODY! North Dakota St could he 10-2 with your schedule.
Join a conference!

Well, perhaps you should go get players who value education and would storm Omaha Beach for your school instead of a bunch of highly talented mercenaries.
Whose fault is that?

I will try to remember that when the 5-7 teams show up on my TV screen during bowl season.

Two 5-7 teams with rosters diminished by opt outs playing in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl doesn’t usually qualify as “good” in my opinion

This is the type of action we yearn for in July.

Bowls have been over-saturated for a long time now. Need to drastically reduce the numbers.
Posted on 12/8/25 at 8:41 am to Tdubs7
4 team and now 12 team playoff made 'bowl games' irrelevant. Add in transfer portal and its a shitshow that nobody cares about.

Yeah “good” may be a stretch. But competitive for various reasons. Young guys get to play as well.

I don’t care, didn’t plan on watching anyway.

You won’t see Big Ten and SEC schools doing this and turning down program exposure and branding opportunities. It’s a great way to retain talent and develop young players. Bowl prep is key.
For the fans, these game provide great casual entertainment.

But Auburn just declined a bowl bid.
Posted on 12/8/25 at 9:17 am to southpawcock
Because they weren’t bowl eligible and when the season ended, hired a new coach and started a roster flip. Thats a lot different than bowl eligible teams who should have been preparing to play another game, but just decided no thanks.

It's good that teams are declining. It's a terrible product. No one watches.
It's like the NIT in basketball. Does anyone watch that product?

The players at those bowl games were getting swag though

Bowl season used to be one of the most exciting times on the sports calendar when we had rare matchups, two fan bases overtaking a city for a good time and a lot of pride at stake.
People have nostaligia for the bowl system, but compartively, we have the same amount of relevant games.
In 1995, there were 18 bowl games, which for the sake of argument, let's say all were relevant (though unlikely).
In 2025, there are 35, excluding the college football playoff. If we say all CFP games are relevant, that makes 11 relevant games where teams care.
In looking at the rest of the bowl schedule, depending upon opt outs, there looks to be about 8 or so interesting/relevant matchups:
Clemson vs Penn State
BYU vs GA Tech
UVA vs Mizzou
Tennessee vs Illinois
USCw vs TCU
Iowa vs Vandy
Michigan vs Texas
Arizona vs SMU
And then some other bubble relevant games, which could be entertaining:
Boise State vs Washington
LSU vs Houston
Nebraska vs Utah
All in all, not that much different from the bowl years of past seasons for which everyone has nostalgia, and we at least now get a champion decided by on field play instead of by the opinions of some journalists.
