The shoes aren't as bad as people are making them out to be. This has to be just for the hatred of the dad.
For the Ball's to win on this deal Lonzo has to win Rookie of the Year. If he wins it then at minimum a smaller company will take a chance on backing him.

As 50 Cents once put.... If ***** hate, then let them hate and watch the money pile up.

Fast forward the clip to where he's on the couch, he looks like a hostage in an ISIS video or a cult member recording their goodbye. He's even wearing like an all black robe.

It's possible a smaller company swoops in as a backer. Lavar is might be hoping for that, but it looks like he is counting on his brand to live up to its "Big Baller" name overnight. Building a viable brand takes time and work.
Phil Knight started selling track shoes out of his trunk. Kevin Plank started Under Armor in his grandma's basement. Shaq and Marbury were already established NBA stars, yet they were happy to attach their names to less expensive footwear. Lavar on the other hand wants several hundred dollars for a shoe that isn't even available yet.

one of two things happen:
1. ball takes the $$$ and RUNS
2. ball takes the $$$, uses it as capital, creates the most payless-level shoes in the country
who wins, Ball.

I use to say black basketball players needed their fathers involved in their lives. I guess I was wrong.

I'm pulling for them. I'd love to see a cocky upstart stick it to the shoe giants. Probably won't, but more power to him for having the balls (literally and figuratively) to try.

Where did you see that ?

They charge shipping for a $495 shoe

On second thought, I don't think that this shoe is meant to be their big seller. This will probably be a "collector's item" of sorts.
They're trying to establish a sense that this is something that people want. One way to do that is to create a sense of scarcity. We naturally tend to want things that are scarce. I said earlier that they may slash the price of this one. Instead it would make a lot more sense if they may release another entirely different shoe that's more in line price-wise with the Jordans, Lebrons and what not. Someone else made the point that if they slashed the price of this one, then you've ruined the sense of scarcity, and that's true. But they can create a completely different shoe and that scarcity of the brand is still preserved.
You get the same effect in that you still have that first price anchored in your mind, so this second shoe seems like a deal, and hey maybe it even looks better. They're not going to invest a lot of capital into this shoe launch, but the next shoe launch, which is where they thought they'd make their money in the first place.
I may be giving them too much credit but I still think it's not a bad strategy if that's how it goes down.

Why wouldn't you. If someone can afford the shoes, then I doubt they care about the shipping cost. Why would they want to eat a cost when they don't need to.

More like the before picture if Drake did one of those acne commercials

I don't think the logo is bad but the shoe design sucks imo
To be honest, the logo isn't bad at all. I like they incorporated his jersey#2. It's way better than harden's logo.
The shoes definitely look like a Kobe rip-off and the pricing is more ridiculous than lavar's statement that he could beat Jordan one on one
