i have no idea of their worth but they must make a fortune in merchandise sales alone.
Tens of millions of dollars each year, none of it online. You have to shop at the store to get it (unless buying secondhand).

It's lost its luster and has "sold out" in many ways to the main stream media..
Except they did the exact opposite starting in 2003. When a woman’s group pressured their sponsors for them to admit women for membership they cancelled most of the on air advertising and went commercial free.

I am not a golf guy. What is so great about this particular golf course?

It’s a nonsense question because you can’t sell it in its current form so it’s impossible to say. Therefore, nonsense. Have your son move on to more realistic questions.

I don't know that marketing really plays into it
Bobby Jones did an excellent job of promoting it early on. So yes, marketing played a huge role (and still does).

The Cowboys don't own the stadium.

Not sure what the Cowboys are currently worth, but ANGC is said to be sitting on $500 million in real estate holdings outside the gates of the club itself. At least so says golf.com
Augusta National annual revenue is $140-150 million
Dallas Cowboys annual revenue is $1.25-1.27 billion
Forbes lists the Cowboys net worth at $13 billion

You couldn't be more wrong. The membership book alone is worth billions. It includes presidents, politicians, celebrities, business moguls, etc.
Great points.
It’s like art, the value can be whatever. I would imagine it is far more expensive than we think. Its land, historic allure and clientele list.

If Augusta National were to be placed on the market for sale (obviously, never going to happen), would it be worth as much as the Dallas Cowboys?
Currently the best way to play Augusta national is to find a member who’s raising money for their charity. They usually let you know what kind of donation automatically makes you their friend and then they remind you that they always take their friends to play Augusta.
FTR, like 15 years ago a $20k donation got it done. No telling what it is now

I liked the Masters more when it was popular, but not OVERLY popular.

I still enjoy it, but when Tiger isn't involved it is very...blah looking for storylines etc..
So you liked it when you were the only bandwagoner. Got it.
Your statement makes zero sense. It was always a big event but blew up to non traditional golf fans when Tiger burst on the scene.(Bet ya couldn’t tell me what year without cheating). Then you say you’re not interested in it if it doesn’t have the one player who made golf exponentially more popular. And also largely contributed to making the Masters what it is today.
Something tells me you didn’t watch Nicklaus live in 86 or even know what a persimmon wood is.
