ULL is opening up with Southern in 2009 in Lafayette. Someone told me that Southern has requested 16k tickets for the game, even though they will only get like 7k. It's all about revenue. Sure, Southern is 1-AA, but the game will be a sell out and it keeps MONEY within the state. Tech refusing to play teams like ULM/ULL is absurd based on the fact that they do not draw good crowds at their games with any one else to start off with. I can understand if they do not want to play these teams if they already sell out their other games, but they don't......hence the blue tarp covering empty seats for home games.

The only reason you need is LSU. Is there an LSU type school in Utah or Idaho. Who do either of these schools compete against for recruits? I haven't looked at their rosters but I'm sure they are pulling players from all the surrounding states as well. Unless LSU decides to move to another state, Tech and all other LA schools will suffer whether LSU is good or not. Like it or not, they are the state school.
The talent in LA - the LSU commits is > than ALL of the talent in Idaho.

but to think that all the fans who 'claim' fandom and represent each schools are affluent, educated, and rational is frankly a little dumb.
like i'm fricking going to claim that all 92,500 people in tiger stadium are affluent, educated, and rational .. if you can honestly read that into what i am saying, THAT is dumb as shite ... there are fights in the stands at basically every college football game ... my point is that if LSU and southern played, you wouldn't have a fricking racial turf war in the parking lot and in the stands ... and the point of your question wasn't "out of curiosity" .. it was sarcasm that backfired ..

that would MORE competitive than LSU and southern playing ... once again, MORE competitive than lsu and southern ..

Your basic assertion from the VERY beginning was that LSU and Southern fans wouldn't have racially instigated fights because the fans are above that. They are above that in being mostly "affluent and educated". I say bullshite.
Where we differ (and won't settle) is that if Tech and Grambling were to start playing, I personally think that racism would rear it's ugly head in the greater Ruston area. I then began to think about if there were any other cities who had HBSU and non-HBSU schools play each other in the same city just on a whim. Naturally, the first city that came to thought was Baton Rouge, and I honestly can't remember the last time Baton Rouge and Southern played football. I wasn't trying to make a point at all. But thanks for clarifying my intentions. You're making blind accusations

I love how everybody looks down on Tech for not bringing in a lot of fans for games. Tech hasn't won consistently and for the past several years under Bicknell were garbage so no one cares. Much like Alleva begging people to buy tickets to the Chicken Strip Bowl this year or the dismal crowds for basketball in the PMAC. If you don't win people are uninterested. People are just now starting to get excited about Tech football and athletics in general. In the past no one had any reason to believe that things are going to improve but Dooley as AD has already upped the budget and renovations have been made to J.C. Love Field locker room and press box. New Turf was installed at Joe Aillet and a video board and sound system are coming before next season. The main topic of conversation is football here though. If Dooley keeps improving the team via recruiting and keeps winning, attendance will rise, confidence and ability to schedule tougher OOC home games will rise and the overall state of the program will rise. Its all about winning. Winning=recruits, fans, money, etc. etc.

no, we don't disagree on that .. i know the dynamics of the railroad tracks in ruston and what is considered the "right" side and the "wrong" side and i am not going to say this wouldn't happen between these two .. but i do believe LSU and southern are a very bad parallel here ...

nah .. you're throwing them out by making it appear as if i am claiming ALL LSU and southern fans are affluent, college educated, and above the racist crap ..

Southern and McNeese played a few years ago and there weren't any racial fights/issues that I heard of. The teams aren't from the same city though.

Please keep this thread going. It's so funny to see these posts. And to the person who said Tech-Grambling would be competitive.

the guy basically misunderstood the phrase "tech/grambling would be MORE competitive than LSU/southern" ..

and don't forget the fact that a grambling/la tech game would be FAR more competitive than an LSU/southern game would ..

And kudos to ULM for flipping the bird to Tech and cancelling all the other series with them. Tech won't play ULM in football, so ULM won't play them in anything else. I think the entire Sun Belt should follow suit and stick it in Tech's butt.
The Cajuns returned the baseball contracts to LTU unsigned, forcing LaTech to replace the home/home with SWAC and/or southland teams.
But THAT won't hurt Tech's RPI?

Tech is 46-33-5 vs. ULL, but they're too good to play the Cajuns anymore.
Ole Miss has a better record vs. Mississippi State.
LSU has a better records vs. Arkansas.
Texas has a better record vs. Texas A&M.
Too big/good? frick Tech.
