quite a few LSU fans will go to the indy bowl to tailgate and take in a game.

I have 3 friends who did this. They could care less about Tech or NIU or who won.

It's absolutely, 100% true.

LT's perception
- Surely, we'll get a CUSA nod if we play our cards right.
- Losing to ULM or ULL will ruin our chances!

Reality
- CUSA isn't interested. Never has been, never will be.
- ULM/ULL/GSU will sell out every time. That = $

They're turning down a packed house because they're scared of losing what they don't have.

then where are they on the tech schedule ?? people are asking why there aren't bigger crowds at joe aillet stadium .. well, not too many fresno state, boise state, hawaii, etc. fans are willing to make the trip to "lovely" ruston ... ULM would bring fans, ULL would bring fans, grambling would bring fans ... bring a little logic instead of "f" bombs to the table ...

First of all, Dooley has been working his magic at Tech only recently so past thoughts on CUSA bids is a moot point, IMO.

Second, so by implementing and sticking to a strategy for elevating their program, they are 'afraid' to play ULL or ULM? It's a strategy that works in terms of gaining national recognition, and they're sticking to it by playing the bigger boys (Miss St, LSU, etc).

I didn't ask the question of attendance in the first place. I'm perfectly fine with not playing ULL and ULM and taking the hit in attendance personally. Win and the fans will come.

with the exception of mississippi state this season, tech is playing the "big boys" on the road for $400,000 and $500,000 paydays and for the most part losing (sure, you get the occasional michigan state and alabama upsets) ... think of what you could generate $$$-wise with three home games with a packed house ?? you'd clear a million per game, easily and they are winnable games ... so you'd pass up $3 million dollars and three wins for a half mil and an embarassing 31-point loss ?

tech has won in the past and the fans haven't come .. you beat mississippi state this season, you've beaten alabama and michigan state on the road .. you've been competitive in the WAC, went to a bowl game this season and they still are coming to the home games ... i've been to ruston a number of times .. there is NOTHING to fricking do in ruston, louisiana on a saturday night outside of driving to shreveport ... so them not drawing big crowds at home is a joke ... they are not connecting with local fans .. plain and simple ... you play in a conference with only one school within 500 miles of your campus .. tech's travel budget is EASILY the highest in the state of louisiana ..

If you bring in the right coaches (Dooley) and players (recruiting is getting a lot better)...those three 'losses' will turn into more wins and loss in home revenue will pick up in the long run. Look, I'm not saying they'll turn into the next power program, but they can certainly be a good mid major program like Boise/Fresno/TCU/Utah. And it won't happen over night. You gotta pay the price

They are trying to get out of the WAC for this very reason. CUSA geographically would be a perfect fit for them.

You must admit, part of their 'fan base' problem during their winning years is due to a huge overshadowing effect of LSU's dominance in the past decade.

Yep. That's Tech for ya. Tech won every game of the four-game ULM series in the late 1990's, and every game was a sell-out. Each university made smart-arse slogan t-shirts, and it created a great atmosphere every time.

But Tech would rather play Southeastern than ULM. Sad, sad, sad. The victim?--the fans. Way to treat your fans, Tech. You saved up your money for ten years to beat Mississippi State once, when you could have beaten ULM ten times for much cheaper, and you would have made a lot more money and had a lot more excitement around your program.

No. They can't. They're Louisiana Tech, not Utah.

LT got a big head and thought the WAC would be a good fit for them. Turns out it was a stupid decision because half the WAC is former Sun Belt teams, and the other half are on the west coast! Good job, Tech!

Only ONE game against ULM in the late 90s drew a good crowd.
The last Tech-ULM match-up was at Malone stadium at ULM and the attendance was dismal. Apparently, ULM will not schedule the next game with us at JAS (most likely because this time they want the increased attendance from the initial game of the series). Understandably, Tech said "no way" to that.

As for ULL, I think we played them in '04 and the attendance was typical for a Tech game. ULL MAYBE brought 1500.

You're ignorant. Utah was crap from the 50's to 80's. Good coaching brought that program to where it is today

No, they weren't. Not even one was a sellout.

Only one of the games had a decent attendance.

to be honest with you, lousiana tech should ALREADY be basically permanently ahead of the boises, fresnos, TCUs, and utahs of the world ... tech has a far better recruiting base, particularly at the skill positions, to work off of in this part of the country compared to those schools ... tech has a MUCH deeper football history than those schools do too ... in the late 60s and early to mid 70s, tech owned division II (the pre-cursor to division I-AA) ... they won grantland rice bowls, pioneer bowls, etc ... tech boats names like terry bradshaw also, just to name a few ... it is a travesty that tech is even playing catch up with these schools ...
