how about bc it was a bowl game and half the fans werent fans of either team, plus niu brought a huge following compared to a normal tech road opponent

Because LSU plays on saturdays during the regular season. When there is nothing better to do in shreveport, quite a few LSU fans will go to the indy bowl to tailgate and take in a game.

this is the biggest reason, I think. Tech doesn't have very many casual fans that would choose them over LSU. They have 10,000 or so die-hards, and that's about it.

41.5K was ticket sales, may have been more that 30K in attendance IMHO
