To all these posters that are saying Jordan isnt a clear cut Goat, why do all analyst and announcer ask if Kobe is close to Jordan? No one compares players to KAJ or Russel. No asks if LaBron will be better than BRus or Kareem.

No. He's lost several races to Tyson Gay. Maybe if he dominates this summer again.

Well, you MAY be correct. However there were only 16 MLB temas in 1921 and 1927. There wer 8 teams in each league.

Just saying. He did not hit more HRs than 20 MLB teams.

Thank you. Someone give Bill Russell his due. 11 NBA championships in 13 seasons. Truly dominated basketball like no one ever had or is likely to do in the future.

Rules were changed because of Bill Russell:
The free throw lane was widened.
Offensive goaltending became illegal.

I may be forgetting other changes.

i mean the true GOAT is clearly lance armstrong.... not even close.. but if were talking about team sports.

Gretzky by FAR... no one even compares other players to him.
people are saying that lebron is as good as jordan or kobe is as good as jordan... thus Gretzky is that much further ahead of the rest in his sport

I agree it's Gretzky, but Jordan is awesome.

Both these guys were so awesome that you didn't even have to be a fan of their sport to watch their greatness.

Yep.

1,016 career goals, including playoffs. All-time record.
92 IN ONE SEASON. 1981-82.
3,239 career points, including playoffs. My God.
50 hat tricks.
215 points in 1985-86. 52 goals, 163 assists.
9 Hart Trophies, 8 of them consecutive.
100 goals in 1983-84, 87 in 74 regular season games and 13 in 19 playoff games.

When Babe Ruth hit 60 home runs in 1927, he hit 14% of all home runs in his league that year. For a player to hit 14% of all home runs today, he would have to hit over 300 home runs in one season.

I couldn't find a list in order but I picked through a list of all the 100 point seasons in the NHL and Gretzky has 9 of the top 11 scoring seasons ever. It's also been 25 years since his prime so it isn't a matter of him being on the tail end of an ever increasing scoring arc.

It's actually very close

Lance is easily the best endurance athlete though considering he could have been the best triathlete in the world had he wanted to
