re: In terms of CFB heartbreak, why isn't 1998 UCLA brought up more?

Because the last two games of that season (Miami and Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl) showed they were very soft and overmatched against top quality competition. They beat some soft West Coast teams but got the ball rammed down their throats by Edgerrin James and Ron Dayne. If I recall they lost both of those games by double digits.

They lost at Miami by 4 points and by a TD to big 10 co-champion Wisconsin.

Kansas state lost their final two games as well, one of which being Purdue that finished 4th in the big 10.

I do think Kansas state was better than ucla and their loss to txam is up there with wva as the most devastating of all time. But you can’t really trash ucla when they suffered the same fate as Kansas State, against arguably better teams.

2011 Oklahoma State's loss at Iowa State

This loss hurt LSU more than Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State wasn’t beating LSU in the national championship game. Now since they didn’t play in the championship game they can act like they would have won and beat their chests over what ifs.

Gundy even came out and said they would have beaten LSU.

I agree it sucked for LSU bc they've have another title after pummeling OSu but I mean...there's no way it hurt them more than it did Osu ha. I imagine any OSU fan on earth would rather have gone undefeated and seen their team play in a national title game opposed to losign like they did.

Kansas State should have lost to Nebraska. On Nebraska's final drive where they were ready to take the lead, Kansas State did this right in front of the ref:

That is NOT photoshopped. No call.

They lost to Miami 49-45 after leading 38-21 after three quarters. A bad fumble call allowed Miami to score late. They lost to Wisconsin 38-31.

I think because they proceeded to lose again to Wisky in the Rose Bowl making many question if they really that good to begin with. Not to mention that their defense wasn't that good either.

2011 Oklahoma State likely would've gotten blasted by LSU (mainly due to LSU being a GOAT-caliber team that season; Okie State was certainly on the level of a typical national champion), yet their loss is almost universally considered a top 5 most devastating CFB loss ever.

Is it though?

And if it is considered a devastating loss, is it because they lost their training staff before?

PAC-12 (outside of Oregon constantly changing because I really like their standard green and yellow color scheme) has the best uniforms in college football.

Not by me. That Oklahoma State loss isn't anywhere remotely close to 2007 WVU/Pitt, for instance. That game would be at the top of my list.

Oregon vs Stanford 2012 should be right near the top. Gameday game. Oregon led the entire 2nd half but couldn't pull away and lost in OT. It cost them and Chip Kelly a national title. They would have destroyed Notre Dame, instead that was Bama's honor.

Could you imagine how crazy TD would be if a no call in a big SEC game like LSU/Bama happened that way?
