Sorry for the incorrect race info; the Daytona 24 opens the season next weekend. Looks like it is broadcast on NBC Sports.
I’m a Porsche guy just so you know. They will field a new car this year, the 963. It may take a few races to get it up to its potential, but I expect great things from them. The factory team will field two cars & a supported Penske team will have two.
In rarly practice before todays qualifying 100 minute race, the Acura looks like the car to beat. Cadillac will be in the mix and not sure about the. BMW cars.

Think there are enough of us for a season thread. Drag a few friends into this type of racing. Nothing comes close imo.

I don’t keep up with endurance racing/IMSA super close but I always watch the 24 Hours of Daytona and try to watch as much of Le Mans as possible.

Ferrari is testing the new 499P LMDh (it's actually an LMH) car here at SIR today and tomorrow.

I saw three Ferrari transporters roll in yesterday and thought it was the Ferrari of Tampa and Orlando testing a new GT3 car.

We were told to meet at the Ferrari compound at 8:30 so I figured this is big. With the new electrical systems everytime a Hypercar shows up there is a mandatory safety meeting.

The car is gorgeous. They were doing media photo shoots on track and are now doing 7/10 laps.

I can't take pictures but there are plenty out on the Web.

I'm not sure if this is their WEC car or IMSA car. I'm guessing the latter.

ETA2: It's Ferrari's WEC car. The big difference is that Ferrari builds their own chassis.

Qualifications completed last weekend in “The Roar” at Daytona.
GTP - the LMPh cars (LeMans Prototype Hybrid)
* Acura
* Porsche
* Acura
* Cadillac
* Cadillac
* Cadillac
* Cadillac
* BMW
This is anyone’s race. A new car from Porsche running a 24 hour race. Acura definitely the fastest car early.
GT
* Mercedes
* Aston Martin
* Lexus
* Aston Martin
* Lexus
* Aston Martin

The Corvette Team qualified #13. The new Porsche 911 GT3 does not look very competitive in the early going.

The weather forecast looks pretty good, so no night rain racing.

Broadcast coverage of the race coverage will begin Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1:30 p.m. ET on NBC and move to USA Network from 2:30-8 p.m. and then will be exclusively on Peacock and IMSA.TV from 8-10 p.m. Coverage will return to USA Network from 10 p.m. to midnight and then move to Peacock/IMSA.TV until 6 a.m.

From 6 a.m. until noon on Sunday, Jan. 29, Rolex 24 coverage will be available on USA Network. The conclusion of the Rolex 24 will run from noon through 2 p.m. on NBC.

The recent revamping of the categories, and the differences between WEC and IMSA has me a bit confused.

I'm glad to see more hypercars are coming online now.

I know the GTP name has been revived, but is it awesome like the original GTP machines? The Group C / GTP era is legendary.

Is the Porsche GTE still using the reverse-engine (mid-engine) design?

With the GTP (LMPTh) cars racing IMSA, this will be the first since the “Ford vs Ferrari” era, that a car/team can win the triple crown of endurance racing.

I will say this race is absolutely worth the $10 for Peacock premium to watch all 24 hours with no commercials.

Took off work Monday and got energy drinks ready - gonna attempt to watch all 24 hours this time around before I have real responsibilities like a house or kid

I’ll be watching a lot, but at this point in the journey, won’t make all 24. Post an update every hour or so.
For those new to IMSA endurance racing, there are five classes of cars on the track for the 24:
GTP - LMPTh cars - LeMans Prototype Hybrid cars - Acura, Porsche, Cadillac & BMW field 9 cars
LMPT-2 & LMPT-3 - LeMans prototype cars
GTD PRO & GTD - Touring cars

There will be bout 60 cars on the 3.56 mile race course. Really challenges the drivers with the faster classes continually dealing with slower traffic …. for 24 hours ! The Acura GTP on the pole qualified with a lap time of 1:34.031 while the last place GTD ran 1:50.872.

Why is JDC-Miller missing this race? I remember them and Whelen challenged for the overall win pretty well before the late caution last year. Also, is Dragonspeed Racing not in IMSA at all this year?

Better question - are any of the sportsbooks posting odds for this race?

JDC-Miller will enter the lineup with a Porsche 963. They do not expect to take delivery of the car until March or April. Probably the later with supply chain issues.

Dragonspeed is fielding a LMPT-2 car in IMSA.

Looking like Lamborghini will field a GTP car in 2024.

If you find a sports book let us know :-)
