Well, you can go back in time and find your favorite USSR team from the 80s and retroactively crown them champions for those of us living in the present.

Russian Hockey is banned from the Winter Olympics for the first time ever and the USA wins it's first Gold in nearly 5 decades..

This is a sad troll job. I doubt there are many Russians that even think they are top two. We should be able to block people for stupid posts so that you never have to encounter them again.

They won Silver in 2022
Gold in 2018

Cumulative with the Soviet Union they have 9 Golds.

You live in a fairytale world

Well gee whose fault is that?

This is a poli board question. Spoiler, the United States played a huge part in it. Why was Ukraine allowed to compete, though compete is probably too strong a word for their showing?

So they do pretty well when NHL players aren’t allowed?

Russia's best players play in the NHL

No Alex Ovechkin, Nikita Kucherov etc. etc. those years.

People who acknowledge that Russia would have been one of the favorites to win Gold if they were in

The 1980s called, they want their winter sports landscape back.

U.S. and Canada current rosters would each probably win in 5 or 6 games in a 7-game series over Russia’s current roster. So sure, in a one-game scenario they could’ve pulled a minor upset. But U.S. and Canada are a notch above. Russia is more comparable to a Sweden/Finland level at the moment.

Russia’s center depth is atrocious and their D is nowhere near as good as US, Canada, Sweden, etc.

Opening day rosters

Canada 296
US 201
Sweden 72
Russia 56
Finland 39
ROW 62

The 56 aren't too shabby, but try putting 4 lines and 3 pairings together and tell me they are on par with the US or Canada

39 yo Malkin is the 1st line C. After that the dearth at the position is absurd. You'd realistically have to move at least 1 winger inside

40 yo Ovechkin might even make a 2nd line. Don't get me wrong, that's great for his age, but that doesn't say much about the pool

Kucherov, Kaprizov, Panarin are the no-brainer wingers...Sergachev, Provorov, Orlov among the defenders...but things get thin quickly

The goalies would be amazing though. Vasilevskiy, Shesterkin, Sorokin...goodness gracious
