A bill banning tackle football for children under the age of 12 has passed out of committee, and is now set to be called for a vote in the Illinois House of Representatives.
House Bill 4341, which would create the CTE Prevention Act, passed out of the House Mental Health Committee on an 11-9 vote March 1. State Rep. Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, filed the bill Jan. 25.
The bill would bar kids under the age of 12 from participating in any “tackle football offered by an organized youth sports program.”
The ban would cover public and private schools, athletic associations and park districts, among other organizations.
Children under 12 would, however, be allowed to play flag and touch football, as well as “all other athletic activities offered by an organized youth sports program.”
Sente has dubbed the bill the “Dave Duerson Act” after a Chicago Bears football player who committed suicide in 2011. After his death, it was determined Duerson was suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE.
Illinois is among only four states to introduce legislation regulating tackle football, according to ESPN. The others are New York, California and Maryland.

Really? You think that will happen? Junior High Middle School is the age you should start playing tackle

So much for a free country.
If you as a parent don’t know the potential risk of injury from your kid playing football, or any sport for that matter, that’s bad parenting, but not for the state to decide.

Stupid, you can get worse just playing playground smear the queer.

This could make the problem even worse.
If kids don’t learn or even practice form tackling before the age of 12, even if it’s walkthrough, assuming they’re playing some form of football before that time, then that’s only going to increase pisspoor dangerous hits.

So stop trying to get points on the interwebs like a pussy bitch and try to address the story.
If OP is a dick and this isn't a story, please forgive me.

I played organized tackle football before 12 for multiple years and I turned out great! :pump:

No difference between this and the drinking age. I agree that the government should stay out of our lives, but let’s not pretend that this is the tipping point.

Society is trying to litigate and legislate football out of existence.
I suspect if you really looked, you would find signs of CTE in those who played soccer and hockey as well. The difference is that those two sports don't have the most valuable pro league in the US.
Thank God such legislation is passing. Otherwise my child would have been FORCED to play tackle football against his will.

Exactly.
The government needs to stay out of our lives and not tell us what we can and can't do. Except abortion. That shite's gotta GO!
