My man Herm Edwards. Thought it was going to be a shiteshow but first game impression was pretty solid.

That's Arizona State Coach Herm Edwards calling an NFL-style zone blitz! You might call that...a decided schematic advantage.

Really cool to see him have an awesome debut. It's a long season tho.

I mean shite, who can compete with them now. No one else in college football runs those.

College coaches can't call zone blitzes?

People shite on Herm but I don't think he was that bad of a NFL coach. Four playoff appearances in eight years is pretty decent especially when you consider the fact that he was in the same division as the Brady/Belichick Patriots for five of those seasons. And the guy does have a pretty magnetic personality which could carry over to recruiting.

Pac 12 is filled with fun coaching match ups this year.

It’s bewildering to me that black coaches don’t have a huge recruiting advantage

He said some really stupid things before the season, but he's been a solid NFL coach. I don't know about his recruiting and shite like that but they will be fundamentally sound.

He just seemed totally lost in the college scene early on. He is a fine coach but I think most felt he would have a lot of problems connecting to current 18 year olds

Trevor Matich could be the least interesting "analyst" in college football.

I think people doubted herm because it was a super random hiring. He had zero college coaching experience, and recruiting ties and such are a huge factor towards a coach’s success in college.

In addition, he hasn’t coached in years and seemed comfortable on tv and his name was never mentioned for any jobs.

bc an African-American coach by itself won't put lipstick on a pig of a program

I'm shocked you'd think that.

I doubted his recruiting more than his coaching.

He's going to be a terrible hire for them.

They beat a UTSA team that replaced a ton of starters. And it was UTSA.

Herm was not a very good coach when he had a job, has been out of coaching for a decade, and has no idea how to recruit.

This. A month ago would you have expected to see MSB threads praising Herm and putting Taggart on the hot seat?

Somebody tell ol Trevor Saban ran zone blitzes while at LSU and it worked in the National title in '03 vs OU. Spears intercepted a pass off the zone blitz.

Are people really getting excited after his team beat a woefully overrated UTSA?

Good for Herm.

Everyone was writing them off and now they had an impressive showing and they’re acting as if they expected that.

Also I loved the 4th and 2 move. I said it before, ASU had nothing to lose hiring Herm. I’m excited for them.
