Tennis
We haven't had a great american tennis player in a while.
Roddick made some pretty good money and he wasn't even that good.
A great american tennis player that can win a bunch of majors would be huge.
Roddick made 20 million in 2011
Federer made almost 50 million.
If an American can do what Federer or Nadal has been doing, they would make some bank.

How do you get a tryout with an NBA team, right now? I have no idea, especially if I'm some guy off the street.
It would be a lot easier than you think. With youtube etc the word would get out extremely quick if someone had the skills of say Michael Jordan.

Golf. But the chances are very slim you would ever make Tiger money. Tiger is bigger than the game of golf and has been great a lot longer than 5 years. GOAT skills will still not net you a win every time out, but you could win a good chunk of change in winnings and maybe grab a big endorsement deal the last couple of years.
Golf is still the answer, but i doubt you would get anywhere close to 100M / year.

I feel like you could just contact some team and be like ill give y'all 50 grand to let me practice or tryout or some shite. All I need is ten minutes. They'd be like ok free money an then you are the GOAT so you are in

NASCAR. Win races, get money/sponsorship

Well if you play 25 tournies, say you average making 400,000 per tourney (way more in some, less in some) That's $10,000,000 on golf alone.
a white heavyweight champion would make over twice that in one night

Golf, there's almost zero chance I get hurt, it's not a difficult life for 5 years (like baseball), there are tons and tons of open events that can get you on the tour, and the pay is incredible relative to the amount of work done.

Def baseball... If I could just get 5 years of Albert Puhols' contract... Overpaid POS baseball players - America's past time my arse

Definitely tennis.
ETA: if you own tennis for five years straight, you're a legend.

What? People are talking about boxing, football, and UFC and you are saying tennis is bad on your body? I see lots of players in their 40's and 50's on the champions/legends tours (Johnny Mac, Mats Wilander, etc). An unfortunate number of former boxers and football players can't even walk or talk.
Let's clarify:
Boxing is hard on your brain.
Tennis is hard on your knees and back.
Football is hard on your entire body.
UFC is hard on your ears.

Golf is the same thing but with bigger endorsements and shorter tournaments
Golfers not named Tiger Woods get bigger endorsements than tennis players?
You sure about that?

Golf is the best answer because of ease of entry. How do you get a tryout with an NBA team, right now? I have no idea, especially if I'm some guy off the street. But golf? Sign up for a US Open qualifier. Make the Open. Win. Now you're on the Tour. You could go from zero to pro golfer in the span of a few months. There is almost no barrier to entry. No tryouts, no nothing. Just find a qualifier and win it.
Same with tennis.

Baseball. One contract is all you need to be a rich MFer

Go with baseball, sign a huge contract, be set for life. Easy on the body.
I'd go with golf.

Golf. Start playing every day to keep a handicap. Enter the US Open qualifiers. Win the US Open to get invites to every other major. Win the Masters and play in that for life even when I'm shooting 105.
And make a lot of money in the process.

Yeah, I think people just assume that you are going to immediately get a Pujols/A-rod contract which just isn't how baseball is setup. It's the same with football and basketball, the FIRST contract is not the one that makes you super rich. I'm not sure you would see the mega contract given a 5 year window.
Golf loves a good story and an unknown person joining the tour and absolutely dominating would be an incredible thing to watch. Endorsements would be flying off the table for that person, Bubba Watson is a good example of this. Forbes Write-Up on Watson's Endorsements

I guess you could get that 25 mill a year for 10 years contract after being the GOAT for 5 years, but then you would make people forget all about Pujols and A-Rod. I guess you would be rich but people would hate you and you would be a joke.

Soccer ...
Be the GOAT overseas for five and loved by the entire world but still would be able to come to 'Murica, The South, rich as frick with all the fans in the world and not a sole here would be one the wiser about who I am.
Best of both worlds the fame, glory, fans, money of one life and the ability to slip back in society like nothing happened in another.

I've let the topic stew in my head for awhile now
I'm gonna say bowling. 300 game after 300 game would garner huge worldwide attention. In the current world, I could suck off the society is stupid tit for a good long time with this skill
So make me the worlds greatest bowler
