well we don't

and it needs to stay 4... it would devalue the CFP otherwise

I would rather see more good games. I hate when college football ends. The drought in December is completely worthless. Need to play games in Dec and only have 2 weeks off for the bowl game

42 is a little too much. Probably 41

The further you expand it, the less meaningful the regular season becomes.

We have teams making the playoff that ARE NOT WINNING THEIR CONFERENCE! How is that a meaningful regular season if a team can make the playoff simply because of the conference they play in and because voters THINK they are one of the best 4 teams? How can you be one of the best 4 out of 130+ teams if you aren't even the best in your conference?

Let's say LSU beats Alabama in 4 weeks. Alabama will most likely end the season at 11-1, with their best win against Aggie or Aubie. Do they deserve to be in the playoff at that point? Hell no! Even if they end the season at #4, they don't deserve to be in.

Um, no.

Ohio state and Wisconsin will play (maybe twice). Alabama and LSU will play.

An 8 team playoff will create too many rematches and will kill the regular season.

Some conferences deserve 2 teams in the playoffs. The SEC has 3 or 4 teams that are better than any pac12 team. Clemson doesn't play a single team that will end up ranked. Use LSU as an example...if they beat 3 top 10 teams and lose one to the number 1 team in the country by 1 point, they won't be in conference title game. They might be the 2nd best team in the country. The playoffs are here for the best 4 teams, not conference champions

Exactly. LSU nor Alabama should be automatically eliminated from playoff consideration if either is 11-1. The conference champion argument is stupid.

Plus the 4 team playoff makes it more prestigious to get in.

Six teams means the subjective 1 and 2 get a bye week... that is too much of an advantage for college football. No reason not to make it 8 team playoff at that point.

In an 8 team? Sure, but not without Autobids. In a 4 team? No frickin way.

You guys that talk about preserving the meaning of the regular season and then discounting the conference title are talking out of both sides of your mouth. All we can do is apply the eye test when saying 3 to 4 teams in the SEC are better than the entire Pac 12. We don't know that for a fact. I don't care what has happened in the past.

But here's the biggest reason that mindset is idiotic: ya'll want to preserve the meaning of the regular season, but have no problem having LSU beat Alabama (for example), win the SEC, then have them potentially play Alabama again with a trip to the National Championship on the line.

So the regular season means something for Alabama, but for LSU, beating Alabama meant nothing. Alabama still gets a chance to play for a National Title while playing one less game AND losing to LSU already.

If you go to 8, it has to have autobids, or you open yourself up to more of that nonsense.

6 team playoff. Must play in your conference championship to get into the playoff

Fify.

No more mulligans, and finishing second in your division shouldn't be a bye.

Get the frick out. Just because LSU got burned and had to play Bama again in ‘11 doesn’t mean you go that route and throw the baby out with the bath water. The goal is to get the best or most deserving teams in the playoff. You want an 11-1, 2nd ranked LSU team who beat Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina in the East, but lost a 1-point game in Tuscaloosa left out of a 6-team playoff when Bama’s 3 SEC East opponents were Tennessee, Vandy, and Missouri? Y’all’ve got to let that “have to win your division” bullshite go. Teams—even in the same division—can play very different conference schedules.

Well, which is it? Because those aren't the same thing. You think an Alabama team that doesn't win it's division is more deserving than a 1 or 2 loss Pac-12 team that wins it's conference? Better? Very highly probable. But more deserving? Hell no.

Again, if you're going to sit here and try to say the regular season means something, I'm not sure how you can discount this.

I don't understand how going to autobids and at-large teams diminishes the regular season. You still have to perform at a high level. Yeah, maybe you get a 3 or 4 loss conference champion in because of a fluke win, but why does their opponent deserve a mulligan for having a shitty game right before the playoffs?

Say Clemson goes unbeaten until the conference title game...ya'll putting them in because they only have 1 loss?

No PAC-12 team? The only way we’ll ever get a playoff expanded beyond 4 teams is if there’s an automatic qualifier for P5 conference champs. Seasons where one loss P5 conference champs get left out of the top 4 is going to be the driving force to push for 6 or 8 team playoffs. Playoffs won’t be expanded so the 3rd best team in the B1G or SEC can get in

Great slate, but I'm still in favor of 6 team playoff with top 2 getting a bye.

I feel like most years the top 2 will be head and shoulders about #7 and #8, therefore deserving of a bye.

I’m glad this doesn’t happen at any level of football
