If the OKC Thunder can go 15-10 over the final games they’ll finish with 50 wins

...which hasn’t happened since KD was here.

So OKC was able to lose Paul George and Russell Westbrook in the same offseason. Added 21 year old Shai Gilegous-Alexander (averaging 19.5/6/3) and CP3. And ended up with 15 first round picks and 4 pick swaps through the 2026 season.

The Thunder are definitely the most surprising story this year in the NBA.
CP3 back to playing in a more traditional style offense rather than the shite show that is the rockets offense, and that really has him playing like he did back with the Clips. Throw in SGA playing lights out to and this team can make some noise come April/May.

Hopefully the Pelicans have something to say about it, though

Simmons and Russillo had a great pod yesterday where they analyzed the George trade, and pointed out how stacked OKC is with assets going forward, and questioned whether the Clips would do it over if they couldve convinced Kawhi to come alone.

It was a pretty interesting hypothetical with those two

i knew that team was interesting and i had no idea why people thought they'd be terrible (outside of cp3 actually playing for them)

i didn't think they'd be THIS good, but cp3/galo/adams paired well together. shai was going to take a step but the excess "step" corresponds with the excess output in terms of wins

cp3/shai

galo/adams

i thought ferguson would take a step this year and he's still a bum, so i wasn't 100% right

CP3 is obviously getting up there in age, but they have an interesting young core with a ton of picks.

Their process of losing KD and Westbrook was as successful as it could have been. OKC has done really well for themselves other than the Harden deal.

Getting rid of triple double man is paying dividends for the Thunder.

I was way wrong on them. I expected CP3 to pout and either force a trade or pout until they have him a substantial buyout

They’ll probably beat Houston in the first round

Cost them at least another few finals appearances if not a title.

The Westbrook injury cost them a finals appearance in 2013, possibly a title.

Chris did what a lot of guys do at their lowest point. They changed. When Chris got traded it was time for him to take a look in the mirror. He change his diet and lost a lot of weight and is as healthy as he has ever been. Iirc he has missed one game. Sometime it takes hitting the bottom to make the needed changes. I am happy for Chris. I can see them beating Denver in rd 1 if they get that matchup, but not any of the other top4 seeds.

Lowest point? He was damn near just as valuable as Harden in the 2018 playoffs. There were multiple games where he was the best player on the team.

And then he battled injuries last season.

Harden was willing to sign an extension, actually. Thunder could have locked him up for another 4 years on top of his last year under contract. They lowballed him by $4.5 million.

Funny cause Boom spend 2 seasons telling us Chris Paul would do all of this with the Rockets because of the great leadership of Harden.

It’s time to move on from this. OKC was scared of the unknown luxury tax and the repeater. Many teams were.

They should have maxed him. They didn’t.

Is what it is. Tired of talking about something from 8 years ago.
