If the NBA does manage to squeeze out a playoff series this summer, it will always have an asterisk. This years championship will only appear legitimate to that team's fans, and no one else.

That being said, I dont even care, as soon as June comes, start this bad boy up and rolling. Fans dont have to be in attendance, even if half the NBA players are out of shape and cant even play for 5 straight minutes. Im still watching every game no matter what.

Or reduce the playoffs to top 4 seeds in each conference and play best of 5 until the Finals.

more likely 2 out of 3 until finals.

commissioner knows 1 game is a crapshoot.

memphis has three guys who got 30 often enough not to be a fluke and none are morant. clarke and jones get 15. nba doesnt want a one game heat check.
memphis also got a decent player in a trade who's now healthy. and improving josh jackson had a good game last one they played.

1 game or out is not happening i would bet anything.

fans will enjoy it.

if the finals are 3 out of 5 and both teams play well the finals will be viewed as better than all three of the cleveland vs warriors series in which the loser was without stars.

no love at all.
Kyrie dominating curry and then kyrie out.

green and the big Aussie out.

kd and klay out.

and cp3 out when gsw edged them in west.

none of those champs beat a full strength finals opponent.

so if 3 out of 5 well played and full strength vs full strength will go down as more legit.

they’re going to have more playoff teams, not fewer. Things have to be made right to the teams in the West who were chasing that 8 seed and had that cut short.

All teams and players fully healthy and well rested. What more could you ask for? Ain’t no asterisk going on these unless you gonna put an asterisk next to the ones Cleveland or Toronto won over golden state bc of the injuries. Those titles were just as or even more tainted by injuries than this one would be from the format.

Because Bogut getting injured in game five who was averaging 2 rebounds and 4.5 points a game over 4 games was the reason Cleveland won?

Even though Kevin Love was knocked out of an entire half in a game Cleveland lost?

Thats pretty damn thin as far as far as historical injury excuses go.

Overplayed by people that wanted that best season ever.

You must have forgotten iggy tweaking his back and having to be rolled outta bed on game day. And Steph being severely hampered by injury as well. The version of GSW that Cleveland beat was more like a 50 win team than a 70 win team. Do I put an Asterisk? No of course not, but it is def noted.

And in 2015 when love and Irving out and Cleveland losing with Matthew dellavedova as the #2 option?

And in 2018 when you constantly refer to the rockets losing to “goat” when iguodala missed actual games, Curry was 6 weeks removed from actual knee surgery, and Thompson left a game with an injury?

What about 2019 with curry and Thompson turning their ankles in the final game against the clippers and Durant missing the last 5 quarters of the series?

And those rockets titles in the 90s while Jordan was playing baseball?

Where are your notes on all those series WBB?

Do best of 3 or 5 with the top four from each conference.

You're looking at 3-4 weeks max for the whole playoffs that way. That isn't odd or excessively long.

Wait wait, the best 4 teams or the best 4 records? Bc it would be two different groups. No chance they take 4 from each conference. It will be 8.

Top 4 seeds per conference. If you're trying to do it on a limited timetable, cutting the # of teams is better than going single elimination.

I mean, the ideal is still just normal playoffs, but if you need to do it in less than a month, this is how.

Agree with all this. Will watch, but the championship will be tainted no matter what. What makes NBA championships so special is that after the 82 game regular season grind, they have to grind out another 4 best of 7 playoff series. It sucks, but there’s just no way that can be even remotely reproduced. Too much time off.

give the top two in each conf double bye.
5 v 8 1 game
6 v 7. 1 game
a day off
winner 5 v 8 vs 3
winner 6 v 7 vs 4
2 out of 3
2 days off
winners play 1 and 2
3 out of 5
3 days off
finals 4 out of 7 as usual.

I can’t bring myself to hand out an asterisk. Every title is different they all have their own story.

Unless there is cheating or scandal involved, no asterisk. If everyone had to play under the same circumstances (lock out, virus, etc) then that's just part of the story of that season. Rules apply to everyone, so the winner is still the champion of those teams for that year.
