Quidditch played on a computer gaming system with CGI graphics.

no. in that case it makes you unappreciative of the athleticism in sports you claim not to know exist, and pretty uncultured.

Soccer, same as rest of the world. Although when that becomes the case they'll figure out a way to frick it up with commercials. Football is so painful to watch these days. Once you adjust to soccer and appreciate it, the nonstop action with no commercials makes anything else awful to watch.

Yeah, the 2 things that would allow soccer to zucceed in the US are the fact that it is played on a big green field that looks great on a giant arse tv, and that there are basically no commercials.

High level soccer is great and not a 5 hour infomercial like other sports.

If soccer becomes a top sport here, it won't be b/c MLS

MLS is probably the 3rd or 4th most followed soccer league in America. After English Premier League, LigaMX (Mexico) and La Liga (Spain)

Anecdotal, but seeing mid-south kids all-in on youth Hockey makes me think it’s NHL.

I cannot imagine any 8 year old that likes sports not loving hockey. Fast, physical, skill-based game. Very fun.

Nobody's ever going to watch Rugby as a substitute. We don't have the temperment to sit through 2 hours of non-action. We had Rugby in 1890... And Walter Camp thought it was so boring, he changed the rules. Instead of scrums we got line of scrimmage and downs. From then on, you couldn't just struggle at midfield for hours on end. Americans would never adopt Rugby, that's why there was this massive push to evolve from it in the late 19th century...the founding fathers of American football knew Americans like excitement and not scrums for 30 minutes and the ball never moved...back to the rules back then (it was basically town ball)...even Rugby realized their game was boring and changed the rules.

Know how I know that you don't watch rugby?

I find commercials much more exciting than soccer. in fact, I find every sport more exciting than soccer, including golf.

NBA. The NBA has a ton of compelling stars, and there's been an influx of young talent like AD, KAT, Giannis, Porzingis, etc. Silver is a really good commissioner.

The urban thing us silly. Chris Paul is singing the Backstreet Boys in insurance commercials. If that's too urban for you, it's gonna be a scary world.

Hockey and soccer, I think they'll grow, but they have further to go than basketball. The NBA is already ahead and youth basketball isn't slowing down. They'll grow, but aren't first up.

Baseball is steady. It isn't bringing in a ton of new audience, but it will hold a market share.

As poorly as I think Goodell does, the NFL is still a long ways from losing status as #1.

The NFL won't die from the top down, it will get killed off from the bottom up. High schools will start dropping it over the next decade. All the white, suburban mommies aren't going to let their precious little Kylers and Jacksons play peewee league football. Over the next few decades, the feeder pipeline will be killed off.
I think it will be liabilty and insurance costs at the scholastic level that will be the NFL's demise.

Correct and unfortunately part of it is uninformed media hysteria. Pee wee and HS FB is safer than its been since leather helment days.Head injuries, deaths and Bodily injuries are the lowest they've been since the 60's.

Great book on this subject by Daniel Flynn War On Football
He actually breaks down facts and uses researched data to back up his arguements.
