Rose didn't deserve it that year.

I think Wade or Paul should have gotten it in 08-09. Lebron was right there with them, so no big complaint. Rose winning it over Howard and Lebron two seasons ago was a bigger travesty anyway.

I don't see why CP3 isn't getting more love. They were plying lights out before he got hurt & then struggled when he was out. That's an MVP to me. Miami is still a top 4 team in the East without Lebron.

Just seems something has changed with how they vote ever since Nash won his 2nd MVP...I know some people who were stunned actually. Think about this...Shaq and Kobe only have 2 between them and Nash has 2 by himself?

Everyone loves to take a shite on Nash; however, he was doing some spectacular things.

He was going 50/40/90 and averaging roughly 11 apg. He was helping lead his team to one of the best records in the league. He had a legit case in my opinion both seasons.

And with him they're the best team in the East, and maybe the NBA

Maybe that was the first time it was really brought up...but what they are saying is right...and one great game?? Really?

As MJ said, only a couple players would have been stars back then, one being LBJ.

4 in 5 seasons speaks to what MJ said, less competition.

They need to rename the award to "Best Player Award" because the winner is never the most valuable to their team.

We can just claim it the most valuable player in the league that season. I personally think Lebron makes the biggest impact on any team he plays on in the NBA.

Oh wait it is already called the League MVP. Not really a big deal.

The only players who I feel get screwed recently when discussing the NBA MVP is Shaq and Jordan. .

It's not about being "scared to not vote for him" when he's the most deserving.

...thats true, but my point is that Lebron will have won his 4th in 5yrs. What is the MVP award in the NBA? The best player or the player that leads his team the best. There is a difference. Lebron is the best player hands down but Tony Parker has his team in the best position with the best record.

Welcome to the argument that will forever follow "MVP". Does it mean the best player in the league or the guy that was most valuable to his team

How I like to choose MVP is easy. If there was a game that my life depended on the outcome, who would I choose first.

would you consider the MVP voters to be lazy?

The rest of your post and the rest of this thread is really proof that voters are getting the votes correct now, not that they're lazy. Just because MJ was screwed out of MVP awards doesn't mean we should continue that practice today. (Of course, the obvious exception is 2011, when Dwight should have won it, but nobody is perfect I suppose.)

You have to also remember the way we watch the NBA has changed. We have a lot more access to the games themselves and a better understanding of stats and what they mean. Even back in the 90s, even as a sportswriter you were only watching at most 100 regular season games. The 70-80s were even worse for access to games. With the advent of League Pass, voters can watch, not only the teams they cover, but they can see every game or pieces of every game. It increases their exposure to what players are doing. Add to it social media, and they're not as insulated. All of this is a long winded way to say, I think it's a good thing.

he way I look at it is this: The MVP is the player any team would take with the first overall pick if they blew up all the NBA rosters. Lebron James would be the first player chosen by every team, without question.

I always thought it was eat player brings the most value. Say a guy averages 18/7/6 with a small contract...that's value fellas! Ok I'm just kidding. Iv always thought it should be the best player in the league that year. It makes it more exciting to me. IMO Lebron should win it this year without a doubt. And everyone knows MJ should have more. If Lebron ends up with more I wouldn't say "hey look Lebron is better than Jordan!" Jordan deserves more...but Lebron deserves them too.

How could this be it?

If lebron didn't have the backlash for the decision, he could have won when derrick rose didn't.

He is the MVP right now. It's not lazy, it's a fact

It was stupid how people got upset about nothing. The biggest star in the NBA by far moved in free agency because the Cavs front office had been garbage during his career.

1. Big surprise someone moves on because the front office is garbage.

2. He would have been scrutinized regardless if he participated. I thought his participation was the right thing to do because it basically ended the media circus over interviewing him for months after actually signing with a new team. The whole backlash is one of the dumbest things in recent sports history as it obviously led to someone else receiving an undeserved MVP award.

Also I find it hilarious considering Lerbon is one of the biggest athletic stars in the world and he goes out of his way to not be an a-hole about it.

To be fair, it's questionable whether LeBron's play that season really deserved an MVP. He still had the best year of anyone that season, but it wasn't by that much. 2011 was a down year for LeBron. It was easier to make an argument that others deserved it because they were so valuable to their team.

Right now LeBron and KD's play is just on another plane relative to the entire league that saying "X is more valuable to their team" can't make up for the difference in quality of play.

That's how I feel the MVP is generally given out now. Who had the best season? Was their season substantially better than everyone else? If not, then the tie breaker is generally who meant the most to their team among the top 4 seeds in each conference.

Rose won it based on expectations of the Bulls, but that Bulls team was pretty talented overall. If anyone not named LeBron won that year, it really should have been Dwight. Without him that Magic team wouldn't have even been in the playoffs in my opinion.

You should had a lobotomy if you think Tony fricking Parker should be the MVP over Lebron.

If anything Lebron is benefitting from Jordan not winning MVPs every year. People always wanted to give it to Malone or Sir Charles because Jordan was so obvious. Then when he torched em in the playoffs, and it was so evident who the best player was they looked like idiots.
