Then when he torched em in the playoffs, and it was so evident who the best player was they looked like idiots.

Well to be fair, it's a regular season award, not a playoff award.

would you consider the MVP voters to be lazy? 4 in 5 yrs?
Not at all.

but Jordan won his 4th in his 9th yr.
THAT is the lazy voter, MJ should have won wayyyy more.

Is it already a given for Lebron?
Pretty much. Him or Durant, but it's locked up barring injury or something completely unexpected.

Neither. It's the most valuable player. The player that means the most to their team's success
The best player would provide the most to his team's success, almost by definition. Thus, the best player is the most valuable because well...he provides the most value.

Wilt's 100 was worse.

Watching the documentary on it on NBATV, Wilt and basically everyone was admitting they were fouling the other team every trip down the court in the 4th quarter so his team could get the ball back quicker.

Welcome to the argument that will forever follow "MVP". Does it mean the best player in the league or the guy that was most valuable to his team

How I like to choose MVP is easy. If there was a game that my life depended on the outcome, who would I choose first.

IMHO, all 3 of those criteria should give the same result lol.

Whoever you think is the absolute best player in the league is the guy you would also choose if your life depended on it, and he is also the guy who provides more value or contributes more to his team's success than any other player.

No. Actually the MVP voters in previous years should be criticized for not giving the MVP to the best player in the league more often. Jordan should have gotten more than five MVPs. Today's MVP voters are actually getting it right by giving it to the best player in the league every year.

Then Lebron proved he won the MVP the year he left the Cavs...

The Spurs fed Robinson the ball in the final game of a season to score 71 so he could win the scoring title, not MVP.

Nah, he was not even the best player in Florida that season.

I am of the opinion he should not have won last year. It's the most VALUABLE not the most outstanding player award. You take Lebron off the team and they still win 50 games. Take Carmello off the Knicks and they are bottom feeders (I don't think he's MVP just an example). Even if he wins 4 that doesn't mean he is the greatest. Payton has won 4 MVPS in the regular season but chokes in the playoffs which makes him behind Montana and Brady.

I don't pay any merit to PER just as I don't pay attention to those crappy baseball stats that would have had the Angels Rookie winning MVP over a Triple Crown winner.

Since the one game he scored fewer than 20 points this season (18 games):

29.4 ppg
7.8 rpg
7.2 apg
2.1 spg
0.7 bpg
3.0 topg
.700 TS% (62 FG%, 43 3P%, 80 FT%)

The impact on the team is clear as they're 15-3 in that stretch.

He's on another level right now and if he keeps this up for the remainder of the season no one else should even be considered for MVP.

The most recent bogus MVP went to Kobe Bryant in 2007-2008. Chris Paul deserved that one.

Lebron obviously deserves this year's. It's really not even close. Any other option is just playing devil's advocate with no apparent evidence.

One in the same. The best player provides the most value added to his team.

Sure, for some.

As MJ said, only a couple players would have been stars back then, one being LBJ.

4 in 5 seasons speaks to what MJ said, less competition.

MJ's statement was borderline retarded and i'm laughing that somebody actually used it in a discussion
