If it was rigged, what if Mavs made the playoffs?

If Kyrie doesn’t get hurt, and the Mavs are the seventh or eighth seed, how does the league compensate the Mavs then? They made the play-in anyways. With Kyrie, the probably make it out of the play-in.

If it was all a grand conspiracy, how does the league/Mavs know on Feb. 1 that they are not going to make the playoffs, thus giving them a chance to rig the lottery?

As it happened, I was thinking it was rigged.

But why send Cooper to Dallas? There is already enough talent in the West. Sending him to Washington or Charlotte would have been better league wise.

Imagine the state of the Conspiracy Mindset Bros who are now arguing the league rigged the lottery for...checks notes...the San Antonio and Dallas markets

They also can't explain OP, where both AD and Kyrie have to get hurt in order to even make this possible, how how the lottery could even be rigged. It's literally supervised by multiple NBA owners and independent third parties. We all think NBA owners would allow tomfoolery to hurt their team?

because they know Nico will be a “good soldier” and send him where they want; for peanuts if needed

I mean to be fair one of those was almost a guarantee to happen.

Dallas market is the 4th largest TV market behind NYC, LA and Chicago and will pass Chicago by 2030

San Antonio is 31st and a 1 horse town

Owners care about making money. Winning is secondary.

Ive never seen any conspiracy theorists explain why the 1997 lottery was rigged to get Tim Duncan to San Antonio instead of the freaking Boston Celtics

How does helping a super small market like San Antonio make more money?

Or a Dallas market that's seen as mid-impact in NBA standards?

I mean 2 markets considered much more impactful (DC, Philly) were fricked over in the lottery for San Antonio?

Imagine being this obtuse about TV Markets.

DFW will be the third largest Metro by 2030 and SA carries the International Fandom by a very large margin.

I don't care. If Nico can trade Flagg for Giannis, I'd forgive him.

We have no idea what sort of deals happen behind the scenes with owners/commish. But what I can tell you is that these business owners' No. 1 priority is making a profit.

So that's your answer. How they arrive at that is between them. Just like government, we're not important enough to be privy to the business end of it all.

If we're throwing that out, the justification for rigging the lottery makes even less sense.

In that scenario, it's not about promoting premier franchises or making money....so what's the point, exactly?

You have to remember, owners observe the lottery and they'd have to be implicit in this fugazi. What do they gain by fricking over their team if it's not money?

Dallas is seen as mid-tier for NBA markets and SA is the literal bottom of the barrel with NO, SLC, etc.

Cooper Flagg changes that, and you guarantee he is in the building for at minimum 7 years (which allows you to reach over 8m eyeballs plus by then).

SA I specifically mentioned international ratings. I am not arguing from an American metric, they are low.

Dallas is only seen as a mid tier NBA market by people who don’t know what they’re talking about but will choose to instead say things like “ Dallas is seen as mid-tier for NBA markets” out of their arse.

It’s very much solidly a top 6-8 NBA market.
