That's the one thing I'll give to Brees. In his prime, very rarely did he not cash in on a 2 minute/end of game situation. Dude is awesome in the hurry up. He just always had a defense ready to pull a "hold my beer" right after.

I would need to see the stats on this bc to me as a Saints fan I never really felt like it was a sure thing brees would score like it always was with Manning and Brady.

The Saints missed the playoffs a lot during brees “prime” too

He's had more 4th quarter comebacks ruined than any other QB, and it's not even close*

*this isn't an opinion, it's a real stat

This article is from Dec. 2019, but it breaks it down really well

quote:

Take Sunday for example when Brees gave the Saints a 46-45 lead with 53 seconds left after trailing 42-33 earlier in the quarter. That one doesn’t count because the defense allowed a game-winning field goal with no time left.

That game is what I refer to as a lost comeback — a game where a quarterback brought his team from behind in the fourth quarter to a lead, but still did not win the game.

Drew Brees has 19 lost comebacks, easily the most in NFL history. Manning and Brady only have seven each. Brett Favre played the most games at QB ever (326) and had nine lost comebacks.

Thanks for presenting the stats - media would make you believe it wasn’t even close. Lots of big numbers lots of playoff failures.

I’ll echo other and say Rodgers peak was higher and Brees longevity and consistency was his strength. Neither probably won as much as they should and Rodgers had some injury bug seasons.

But it’s not as slam dunk Rodgers is better as most would think, although this season he’s been on fire and SB win would move him quite above.

That's fair, and I know Brees isn't the only QB to have a bad defense. But, these are the Saints defenses in the years Brees missed the playoffs.

(scoring D/total D)

2007 - 25/26
2008 - 26/23
2012 - 31/32
2014 - 28/31
2015 - 32/31
2016 - 31/27

Saints scoring O was Top 5 10 out of 15 seasons and never lower than 12th in points or yards.

None of that makes Brees better than Rodgers, to be clear, but it's not hard to understand why his individual greatness didn't always translate to team success.

this.

Peak Rodgers is the best I've ever seen. However, Mahomes does some amazing stuff as well and may take that title from Rodgers. But, I think Mahomes has two guys right now (hill and kelce) that are far better than anyone Rodgers had during his peak. Plus, Andy Reid is a much better offensive mind than McCarthy.

Absolutely. Aaron Rodgers should go down in history as better than Brees, and in the conversation for Top 5 NFL QB of all time.

Brees is in the discussion for Top 10.

I wouldn't take any of those guys over Rodgers, and Mahomes is absolutely on pace to be better than all of them

Yep

In this era for me, Brady/Brees/Manning are mostly interchangeable. Rodgers is a step ahead. Mahomes appears to be another notch ahead of Rodgers, but needs a few more reps to clearly state he's better.

Peak Brees was pretty damn impressive. Sadly, Peak Brees was wasted with atrocious defenses.

Rodgers arm is superior to Brees, but Brees not winning a single MVP makes the award a complete sham. There is no denying that.

Yes! Brees is James Harden on a football field all stats! 9-8 in postseason
