I went to the Tulane game today, and it was a breath of fresh air.

And it’s not only because the weather was nice.

Tulane is even more impressive in person than they are on TV. It was my first time in Yulman Stadium. It’s a small venue, but their audio/video board is well ahead of LSU’s. As of today though, that may be changing. Thank God.

Tulane is a very very very well coached football team. They have a great running game. Their run blocking is excellent. Makhi Hughes is a very good freshman running back. They did not have their best game throwing the ball. Michael Pratt, for all the hype, was a bit disappointing today.

The most impressive aspect of this game by far was Tulane’s defense. They forced five turnovers and three turnovers-on-down. Compared to LSU, watching Tulane’s defense was like a breath of fresh air. Players were flying to the ball carrier, their tackling technique was on point, and they were PHYSICAL. You could HEAR the hard hits. I felt like I was actually watching football. I heard a coach recently say that fundamentals and technique aren’t coached anymore, but they are for Tulane, and it shows. They plastered and demolished ball carriers without a single targeting penalty being called or even questioned. Their DBs played the pass really well also, although they did get handsy a few times. Tulane’s defense is as impressive as LSU’s offense, not necessarily because Tulane has the best athletes at every position (although they have some really good ones), but because of how well coached they are. The players on their defense were also PASSIONATE. You could tell they love playing the game; and that passion fueled us in the crowd. I felt like I wanted to run through a brick wall after watching Tulane’s LB destroy UTSA’s RB on their last failed two point conversion. It was an inspiring performance.

I will admit being sympathetic to Tom Brady’s recent comments that there is a lot of mediocre football being played. Watching the Saints and LSU this year, there is a lot of finesse and laziness with some of the players on those teams. The Saints aren’t well coached on offense. LSU isn’t well coached on defense. Tulane is coached well on both sides of the ball, and that is why they have more wins in their first twelve games than any of the other football teams in Louisiana. Roll wave.

This is both ridiculous and hilarious, I’ve been to that stadium a bunch and neither it nor their team is even in the same galaxy as ours on any level.

You’re either drunk, stupid, or actually representing a rival school.

There is a lot of talk among the big money people (i.e. state legislators, senators, personal injury lawyers, etc.) that the state is looking to change Tulane to the new state university of Louisiana. It would still remain private but LSU will be changing its name to LSSU (Louisiana Secondary State University) and Tulane would retain the Tulane name but also receive primary funding from the state. This is going to be coupled with a new Saints stadium that will be announced Q1 2024 on West Bank with sky bridge. Big donors are putting up over $1bn to Tulane and Saints partnership and many are saying they will be making a run at admission to the SEC.

It didn’t hurt that they played multiple teams like Rice, Tulsa and ECU along the way. Those were all one score games vs shite teams, by the way. Tulane is a well-coached team, but the hype goes a bit far sometimes.

If they don’t tighten up on offense, SMU will beat them next week.

They are one of best staffed programs in the nation. Four years ago, when Fritz was at a crossroads, he began using an analytics firm to staff his entire team through data and fit.

Needless to say, it has worked out very well for him. He deverses a bigger job, but we will see if that happens at his age. Simple fact is, most ADs use these guys' age and experience against them. They all want the shiny new 38 yr old coach instead..

Thats just the sad reality.

Tulane is a school that is benefiting from the portal. There are less kids out of high school getting offers from the bigger D1 schools.

Tulane can offer with a ride playing football with a Tulane education.

No brainer.

They played UTSA and were gifted multiple turnovers.

UTSA lost to Army and gave up 37 points. LSU beat Army 62-0.

Tulane is 11-1 because they've played the 74th ranked SOS. LSU has the number 1 ranked SOS in the country. If LSU played Tulane's schedule, (including Ole Miss at home) they'd be undefeated with the #1 defense in the country and the highest scoring offense of all time by at least 2 scores.

Tulane has beaten two Top 50 teams in the ELO Rankings in 2023.

LSU has beaten one Top 50 team in the ELO Rankings in 2023.

Was sweet when he scored late to beat LSU in Baton Rouge back in the day. At the 11:00 minute mark

Stop this. They are a G5 team and have always played a schedule like this. SOS doesn’t matter when assessing teams like this considering there are seventy P5 teams.

What they have been doing the last two seasons has been special.

Tulane was down to their projected 3rd string QB for that game. No way in hell LSU beats Ole Miss w/o Daniels even if it was in Baton Rouge.
