That is because you breed like rats in Ohio and then sent them away to destroy the rest of America.....

Or ND hasnt been but 1 other time in the last 30 years.....Ala pretty much every year and Clemson 3 of 4....plus a semi every year for both that is 7 games combined the last 4 years in the Championship game alone. That is a huge expense over the old system for teams and currently it is pretty much 2 teams and not spread out like I am sure statically it would be in a 20 year avg run.
Since the playoffs started 5 years ago a total of 15 games will have happened after Monday night. Ala and Clem take up 16 of the 30 spots and 4 teams take up 22 of the 30. A list of teams that have played by games played.
Ala 9 games
Clem 7 games
Okla 3 games
OhSt 4 games
OR 2 games both in 1 year
UGA 1
FSU 1
WASH 1
ND 1
MICH ST 1

Next year in the Superdome should bring higher prices again. I just hope they won't be like the prices in 2012 for LSU/Bama as those were insane.

There are so many Ohio St alumni across the country. There are so many in Phoenix that they renamed a suburb Buckeye, AZ. Whether you want to admit it or not, students come from all over the US and the world to come attend a school like Ohio St. Alabama and Clemson are Southern schools that draw locally. It’s just the way it is. Not saying it’s wrong, but Ohio St is just a massive national brand. I could go to Antigua & Barbuda and run into Ohio St fans. It’s no secret the bowl committees pray for Ohio St.

Ohio St and Notre Dame are one of the few teams that have a national fan base

Honestly this is the perfect storm. We have 2 fanbases far removed from the “once in a lifetime” mentality being asked to travel across the country to one of the shittiest venues to travel to a game on a fricking Monday

if the game was in the south or even on the east coast the ticket prices would be extreme...

I think the secret is out that Santa Clara is the worst place in the US to see a football game.
Or.... It's two teams that have been to several championship games, the flight prices are insane for a short notice purchase, the area it's in is expensive, and it's on a Monday night.
shite, putting this on Monday night probably loses 10k fans alone regardless of who is playing.

Why can't they just play the game in Atlanta this year and call it a day? It's smackdab in the middle of both schools.

Greed. Putting out the title game for a yearly bid was a terrible cash grab of an idea. The best part about college football is that the regular fan can still afford to go. The way it's set up now it very difficult to happen.
The playoff seems to have people running the show who are incredibly short sighted much in the way the NFL has been with pricing out regular folks (this is going to bite them in the arse as current fans start to age out) along with generally giving the middle finger to it's fan base at every opportunity. You have a recipe for corporate bullshite putting the screws to what should be the ultimate fan event and it's slowly killing the game.

Horrible location, and 49'er fans don't show up for games there.
National Title game should only be in these bowls: Rose,Sugar,Orange, Vegas(coming soon),etc.
