LSU fans (majority of this board) because he called out Zack Mettenberger for being a bum and so non-stop bashing had ensued.

I'm not sure his character or the type of man he is has ever been questioned. Great guy, just seems annoying at times.
This. It's like that South Park episode about Bono and U2, where they talk about Bono's good deeds, while still being a tool.

and even if you weren't kidding, still wouldn't matter one bit. If he's doing it for the attention, that's still 5 mil going to those in need

You really can't blame the MSB for calling him an attention whore after that season of hard knocks. I can respect what he's doing for the City of Houston and find some of the other stuff he does annoying.

Even as a houstonian, I thought he was a bit of a try-hard. I have never enjoyed athletes that don't seem to have a real personality, I get why they put up this act of mega-nice guy but comes across as fake.

Now having said that, he would never ever be able to raise 12 mil+ plus if he didn't have the respectable persona. JJ is walking the walk and you gotta respect that.

From what I gather, any person that ever talks about him that actually knows him says he's 100% geniune, that's just how he actually is.

Now of course we can say, well yea they'll say that, they won't come out and say he's fake. Sure, maybe that's true. But maybe he's just that nice of a dude too.

Can you really blame anyone for being skeptical?

Like I said, at this point I was wrong about him. He is kicking arse.

Yes. Why be skeptical?

It sorta feels like a microcosm of how you view things in life, why be skeptical? I'm sure it's not a 100% correlation, but I'd bet a solid amount of correlation between those who really dislike JJ Watt and them being pretty miserable dudes in general in their own lives.

Being a good person and being an attention whore are not mutually exclusive.
