The discussion was if you took our athletes and changed the culture where our elite athletes aspired to be soccer players what would happen
This is a macro cultural argument that at its core has nothing to do with athleticism

Global star composition makes clear that if said shift happened, the physique of the USMNT would still be far closer to that of the GOAT (midget) than the lab grown athlete you have in your head

This is sooooo basic

Of course they aren’t genetically inferior for soccer. I don’t know if that’s his point, I don’t think it is. But soccer requires more than just a field of 11 6’4 225lbs race horses out muscling and out running the competition. Soccer is a great equalizing of athletic ability in terms of sports due to the technical skill required to be world class. You don’t need to be a specimen to dominate. It wouldn’t hurt but it isn’t required.

You need elite technical skill, soccer IQ, etc. we didn’t lose to the Belgium's tonight because they were more athletic than us, we lost because their players have done nothing but play soccer since birth.

In a parallel universe where football didn’t exist and soccer was the king of US sports we would probably have a perennial top 3 international team with multiple world cups. We have a huge population, are sports obsessed, and are rich as frick. But until you can make as much money being the starting striker for FC Dallas as you can the Cowboys starting QB that will never happen.

quote:

He specifically said the scenarios where he was trained in soccer skills as a child.

Nevermind. We agree. Anyone who doesn’t think American wouldn’t shite pump the rest of the world on the regular in soccer if we had the same sport culture here is delusional. We are the best athletes in the world, we have more money than anyone else, and we love sports more than anyone else.

Because it's the most common name for the sport globally

Next time do you need context clues to know what football I was talking about? I can accommodate to help you out

I have sorted it out. I was two margaritas deep and had a mental lapse! Also, if you and I were neck and neck in competition for the golden boot you would score an own goal.

then why are you, presumably an American, on an American website talking about the sport with Americans yet not calling it by the common American name

feels like lebron would be a pretty good candidate if given the proper lifelong dedication/coaching he inevitably would have if soccer was our #1 sport quote:
Lebron is way too big to be a professional soccer player and wouldn’t have the endurance due to his physical stature. He’s 5 inches taller and 40lbs heavier than physical soccer freak Erling Haaland

Also Haaland isn’t just a world class player because he’s physically dominate. His dad played in the premier league and he grew up playing high level academy ball his whole childhood.

Because

1. It's the name of the sport as said aloud by 95% of the associated media I consume

2. I assume Americans aren't retarded and can use context clues to put things together

It could just be an Aggy thing, I don't know. But it's either way it's sad!

We will never be close to the elite nations
