That can compete with football money, but not the NBA.

There are all of ~300 NBA players in the world. Trying to get to the NBA as a youth is a pretty unrealistic goal.

You see elite players pop up in the NFL after having never played a down of football.

Number one example is Christian Okoye. Had never seen a football before going to do track at some tiny California school. Football coach sees him and asks him to practice. All-Pro for a few years. No chance to replicate that with soccer.

Another good example. A lot of athletic 6'4" guys are middling baseball pitchers instead of playing soccer.

Your example is a guy playing about the 40th rated soccer league? They are basically a semi pro team.

Zlatan is 6’5”

Haaland is 6’ 5”

Ronaldo is 6’ 2” and ripped.

Thomas Mueller is 6’ 1”

And they all play a position we had exactly one player at and couldnt get the ball to yesterday.

It can happen in the nba as well. But yeah, you will NEVER get a world cup worthy center midfielder that doesnt start playing the game before they are 8 years old. They could have all the athleticism in the world. It wouldn't matter.

If having players over 6’5” was the key to dominating those soccer playing countries would have figured it out a long time ago !

Messi
Pele
Maradona
Carlos Tevez
Paul Scholes

Etc.are about 5-6 and 150 lbs.

There's tons and tons of literal all-timers that would never do a thing in any other sport.

Aside from that, people neglect to look at where guys like Haaland are horribly weak in their games

Haaland is extremely proficient at what he does, but he plays a very specific role and thats the point.

Athleticism isnt the bottleneck, its the actual soccer skill and technical ability. Always will be.

On a side note, the modern pressing style dominating soccer actually would level up a notch if we could use superior athletes in the press. The problem is finding the balance in the explosive v. industrious muscle development. Our super athletes would never be on that level playing soccer b/c of the needs of aerobic muscular/fiber development. Maximizing explosive movements works in our sports b/c our players can sub off and come on.

Yes but in positions where physical attributes are most important. You won't see that at the QB position in football or the PG position in basktball.

Thats like asking a guy like Lebron to have the ball-handling skills of Kyrie Irving or Allen Iverson?

Do our best athletes not care about basketball either?

Soccer is far closer to baseball than basketball or football in terms of development in terms of what it take to develop players.

Soccer is overwhelming a technical sport that just takes massive amounts of repetition and touches on the ball at a young age. You can’t start that process at age 12, 13, 14. It is too late.

Soccer compounds the challenge by also being a running sport so the prime for a soccer player is shifted younger than a baseball player. There is less time to develop the technical ability before your legs can no longer keep up.

I have seen finances brought up a number of times in here, and I just want to point out that there are well over 150 players in the world making over $12 million per year with the highest salaries up in NFL QB ranges ($40-70 million). Additionally, there are another couple hundred that make $2-10 million. Even the top 25 players in Britain's minor league (Championship) make ~$3-5 million per year.

Precisely correct. Watch an Ajax youth team and you'll understand. They would dominate any U.S. youth team. The gap widens as they age.
