Dont let the Ivy's get serious and treat football as more than an intramural, "traditional" sport.

Too late, they’ve joined the FCS playoffs

In terms of money, access to talent, schedule, and lifestyle for players...I say SMU is the real sleeping giant

I have no clue why they kept Locksley around for another year.
But as Indiana has shown anyone can turn it around. I'd like to see them good again, they were competent in early 00s and 80s.

Been hearing this for years about Maryland.

Going into last season, Indiana had the most losses in FBS history, never had a Heisman winner, and their seven blue-chips ranked behind the likes of Boston College and Purdue. They are a unicorn - What they've accomplished is unprecedented at its absolute, and it's nice when a billionaire is willing to significantly contribute to those efforts.
I'd probably push back against "anyone" being able to turn it around like Indiana.

The guy who started Under Armour is back in charge. They are refocusing on team sports, especially after losing some big time schools. He may very well throw a lot of money at Maryland to make them relevant.

I'd throw out Boston College name before Maryland.
BC is more likely to disappear like UMASS once the ACC dissolves in a few years.

We'll see... Not like Plank was ever gone. He originally hand-picked Frisk and stayed on as Chair of the Board.
Maybe Plank bankrolls Maryland, but could be awhile. He has his work cut out for himself at UA. Has had to remove himself from several other projects.

they had 2 5 stars and 12 4 stars in football in the 2026 class alone.
Without looking, I bet half those guys are from out of state attending all of those prep schools that Maryland has…but nonetheless the talent is certainly there coming out of HS

After Indiana, everyone is a sleeping giant if they're rolling in dough and fanboy millionaires want to throw it away.
Every kid is going with best offer, no matter the school or location.
Forget antiquated notions,of Bluebloods, "In-State talent" (its not the 70s/80s anymore) and facilities.
This pro sport is just like the NFL but with WAY more freedom...and our "College" boys free agents sign where the money is...they don't care where Momma live, can fly her out first class private every game or, buy her a house wherever you play, they don't care about your School, your colors, your fight song and will be on-campus only to play and then leave. If Kent State started paying all their players $5 million a year, the Golden Flashes would be the greatest team quicker than you could say Goodbye Tide.

They made somewhat of a bold move last off season in hiring Buzz Williams away from A&M. At least from a cost standpoint. There 2025 transfer class was ok, but the team has sucked this year. I don't know if that is growing pains of a 1st year HC at the school...or a sign Williams is not cut out for this era of the game

Yes, but the problem is no one in this immediate area really cares about CFB. Like all big cities DC and above, pro sports are the dominant teams. The only people that are passionate about CFB or college sports in general are from out of town. Hell, even though College Park, MD is actually connected to DC's metro system, the team that gets the local radio spot on Saturdays is actually VT. No doubt, Maryland football has a solid enough history, but they don't have an alumni base that cares enough to fuel a powerhouse program in the NIL era. Hell, even the big local sports radio show is hosted by a few UMD alum, and they hardly ever talk about the Terps. Unless you have a singular billionaire like Mark Cuban that is willing to fund your NIL, it's not happening.

Firing/replacing Locksley will probably give Buzz a couple years but their fans are already way out on him. The current AD didn't hire him, and while he makes a ton, his buyout is pretty manageable after next season is completed
