I don’t buy the whole “24-team playoff is going to devalue the regular season” idea

It might decrease some interest in the first half of the season, but I think it will increase the interest and excitement in the second half of the season and during bowl season.

All of sudden we will have tons of meaningful games in November as lots of teams on the bubble fight to get into the CFP. Also, the bowls in December can become meaningful again if they are used as host sites for playoff games.

There is nothing meaningful about Iowa v UCLA for the right to get smashed by a good team in the “playoffs”

Sorry dude I don’t want to live in a world where alabama can lose to LSU, Auburn, Ole Miss and Tennessee and still make the playoffs.

Same, but for every team, not just Alabama.

How seriously do people take college basketball's regular season?

There are zero real stakes to top ten games.

Both of those teams go on to get a high seed in the tournament anyway

When every single great, good, and mediocre program makes the playoffs, the results hardly even matter until the playoffs

As Josh Pate so accurately points out time and time again, those "meaningful games" will only be manufactured. How many people truly think that a game between #19 Nebraska (7-3) and #24 Northwestern (6-4) in November is a preview of the CFP National Championship Game in January?

It’s just hard to care about a bunch of 3-4 loss teams on the “bubble” fighting to get blown out by 40 points. I’d rather have the fun meaningful games be dispersed through the year as it actually made the sport unique. Cramming a multi week tournament at the conclusion of a seasons worth of games already just mirrors every other western sport.

Ohio State's, Georgia's, Alabama's, etc backups could make a 24 team playoff. Regular season games are going to be completely irrelevant.

Youre not making more meaningful games. Youre shifting which games are meaningful. LSU vs Texas or LSU vs Bama is no longer super meaningful. Instead we get a "meaningful" Iowa vs Illinois matchup.

Hard pass.

The problem is conferences are too large. You either have to play a ton of conference games or you don't play half the teams.

If the conferences were at 9 and you played 8 conference games, 2 other P4 teams, and 2 rent a win warm up games it would be a lot more tolerable to have a 24 team playoff IMO.

The regular season has been meaningless since 2011.

They should just have a 6 game season and a 128 team playoff. At this point, why not? If its all gonna burn might as well go all the way.
