They were paid millions of dollars to play basketball even back then

They were not paid badly

And they played a sport for half the year with all expenses covered

You people are hilarious

Patrick Ewings 1990 salary invested in the DOW only would be about 50 million today. With any work maybe 125 million with real estate

You’re trying to ask them to play low leverage games that don’t mean shite in the big picture. If you’re trying to win the title, nothing counts until the all star break

Absolute Ironman. In his 18 seasons with the Jazz, he played 80+ games in 17. The one he didn’t? The lockout shortened season where he played 49/50.

His career earnings adjusted to the S&P 500 from 2003 to now would be about $307,000,000

This would make him number 5 in NBA active career earnings right now behind Westbrook and ahead of Curry

The myth of the poor NBA player is a myth

Then why can you buy testosterone pills at every Costco?

What does the average American diet look like in 2022 vs 1970?

What does this have to do with the AVERAGES in the NBA?

On Average.

On Average the best players are playing way fewer games and way less minutes in those games. How are you even disputing this?

Larry Bird broke his back paving his own driveway.

And played 5 more years, including a Finals appearance and the Dream Team. His doctor said they had to realign his spine before every game and during every TO Bird would lay on the ground while the team huddled.

The game was less physical and involved less effort.

The players also didn't put the same force on their bodies b/c of less developed athleticism.

Also, as has been stated, players rest to extend their careers and avoid major life-altering injuries.

Question… do you need a deeper rotation now to win as opposed to back in the day?

I bet more players now play 500+ minutes in a regular season than ever before

yeah, I'm all in on the Pels, but I know their two best players are probably gonna miss at least 20 to 30 games this year. And I ain't down for that.

franchises are now valued at billions.
the players are valued like prize cattle.
medical staff are expected to know what's wrong and what to do or not do.
and telecommunications like TD make it all more transparent but not 100% transparent.

Because they honored their contracts.

Larry Bird said, "if you get paid to go to work, you go to work.". Even with a broken back for 6 years. " It not only affects the team but if I don't play, it affects the vendors, the concessions guys, their jobs, if we lose attendance."

Basically players are selfish prima donnas these days.

The money has warped.

Let's face it the NBA as a whole is soft including their fans. They can't even be bothered to play a game outdoors as they might get their hair wet.
