Weird how Devonta Smith is immediately thrown out there in the first reply. Almost like there's some impulsive obsession.

Chase has all the physical tools to be really good in the NFL. Really, really good.

I think the gap between Chase and JJ is much closer than OP stated. Very similar to the gap between Landry and OBJ

I feel like Sammy Watkins was more touted than Deandre Hopkins coming out of college but obviously Nuke is the better NFL player.

Good one! Sammy has had some injuries but he was absolutely though of as the better player in college

Everyone is forgetting Marshall too. Who is a specimen himself and a very smooth runner with good hands and great body for the position.

2019 LSU WRs were absurd. Racey McMath barely played and is a freak of nature.

If I am Atlanta, I take him at 4. You can give Ryan a big body when you dump Juilo, the he will be a prime trade when Ryan retires.

don't know if you can say that with 100% certainty. Jefferson had nearly 30 more catches and 18 TDs compared to Chase's 20. Now, Chase operated on the outside with more one on one matchups compared to Jefferson, but I wouldn't say it was CLEAR Chase was better. Jefferson was damn good! And he was good for 2 years. They each had tremendous games in 2019. But Jefferson seemed to be (just slightly) where Burrow looked more when he had to have a play.

I bought a bunch of Jefferson stock going into 2019. So I held onto the Jefferson>chase take for a long time, still kinda do.

If you go back and watch, Chase always held the defenses attention more than Jefferson. Oklahoma is a bad example because they were helpless, but their plan was to shut chase down. Clemson and Bama both put their number 1 corner on him.

Jefferson would have been the number one on any team but bama and LSU. So getting the second corner every week meant he was going to abuse people. He is way too good of a router runner and finding space to not be doubled

Chase on the other hand is just going to abuse corners because of his strength and ability to high point balls.

My take last year was that Jefferson is a lock to be a good pro. At worst he has a Josh Reed 8 years 14 QB career.

Chase could bust but his ceiling is the roof

He was thought of as a better prospect coming out of college but that was a year later.

But he never our performs Hopkins on the field. In 2012 Hopkins almost doubles Watkin’s rec yards and had 6x as many TDs.

Compared to 2019 when Chase actually had better #s than Jefferson while they both played.

I understand what you’re saying, especially point number 1, but to your point number 2, I think that would be more of a detriment to Jefferson as he consistently saw Nickel corners/slot corners, where chase went against the other teams top cover guys. Look how he completely embarrassed the first round pick from Clemson and his guy(s) from UGA and Alabama.

Then you look at Chase, who played on the same team/in the same system as Jefferson, and there was no doubt who THE guy was. It was Chase

No idea why anyone would say that so definitively. Jefferson arguably made bigger more significant plays when they were really needed. I also think Moss, CEH, Jefferson and Burrow’s proficiency and comfort in attacking the middle of the field greatly opened things up for him and gave him some very favorable coverage at times.

Now all the credit to Chase for exploiting it and I’ll think he will be a great pro. I just don’t think you can base his future success off of his role in that 19’ offense as all those guys greatly benefited from each other, Chase included.

Warrick and Cole at FSU. Warrick went top 5. Cole went in the 3rd round same year. Cole ended up with way better career. Boldin was also on the same team. I think he got drafted in the 2nd a year or two later..

I don't see that as a negative thing at all. Less wear and tear on the body if anything. I agree on the rust part though, he hasn't played a live action game since January 2020 on top of the fact that the competition and talent level is about to go way up. Wouldn't be shocked to see him struggle some out the gate.

I think that Smith is better than Chase, but I won't be surprised if he is picked after Chase.
