re: How many of you are actually giving up on watching college football?

I think people are looking at this wrong. I doubt there will be a ton of people that refuse to ever watch the sport again.
But I do think there will be many folks that don’t care nearly as much. And start to watch way less than before. Perhaps just their favorite team and playoff games but before it was 6-8 hours each Saturday.
There are more options than all or none.

I don’t keep up with football like I used to. I used to keep up with recruiting and standings and schedules and all the storylines. I watched every LSU game and I went to every home game for a long time.
Now…after Saturday chores, I’ll see who is playing and watch a game if it is a good one. I’ll watch Indiana play Northwestern if it’s a competitive game. I actually watch less LSU games now. If it’s on, I’ll watch it. If I miss it, oh well. If it’s a late game, I’m probably not going to stay up to finish it unless it’s a really really good game. Very sad.

My interest has been steadily declining for several years. Aging, NIL/mercenary bullshite, and Bama not being as dominant have all contributed I think. I missed 2 or 3 bama games last year pretty much in their entirety. And watched significantly less non-Bama that I was 3-5 years ago.
They absolutely have to address the transfer issue or it will really hurt the sport.

This is likely my last year getting season tickets. I will still watch Tulane on TV. They really aggravated me this last season.

I already gave it up. I didn't even watch a single highlight video this year much less a game. College D1A Rugby semifinals are this weekend, can't wait!

It’s not about who gives it up completely. Apathy is a legit trend.
Last season was the first time I missed games on TV and didn’t even bother watching the replay or recap.

quote:sure but how much of that is the game changing vs your life changing. When I was 19 and the whole frat would get drunk and watch football all day Saturday, it was never because the payers weren’t getting paid or weren’t transferring. Hell Arkansas was horrible when I was in school and we still never missed a game. Now that I’ve got 2 kids under 5 my Saturdays aren’t nearly as free.
Im going to watch the LSU games and other games when i'm sitting around on a Saturday, but the idea that this is what it was when i was in college is gone. Sure, I’ll watch, but i won't be able to ever enjoy it the way I used to

That’s fair, but I’ll say that 2019 season I had two kids under five, a wife and a buisness to run. That was a season where every waking moment I was glued to college football. It’s just different now.

My Saturdays haven't been monopolized by football all day like they used to just a few short years ago. You can choose to believe that or not
Same here, and it’s not just college football. It’s all sports, and I recognized it happening during the COVID plandemic. I haven’t had nearly the same interest since, and it kinda makes me sad.

Me.
Barely watched any college football this past year. Only watched 4 of my team's games. No interest anymore.
Least interested I have ever been in March Madness since I was a young kid in the mid 90s. Where before it was my favorite sporting event of the year and I'd anticipate it for weeks like a kid and Christmas. This year I barely cared.
Don't care anymore. College sports is no longer about programs winning via building a culture of excellence, its all about who has donors that can throw money around.
No thanks. I'm out. I've ended up watching more pro sports instead - NFL and NBA.

CFB viewership and revenue will increase IMHO. People will still watch the games. All of this belly-aching ain't gonna change nuthin'.
I feel like more viewership will funnel to the marquee games and matchups of the week, but overall college football viewership will be down as the 2nd and 3rd tier games (i.e. Purdue vs. Rutgers for the 11am kickoff on Saturday) will no longer draw the eyeballs from people like me who used to watch.

I watch way less. Still watch my team and other big sec games, rarely watch anything outside that like I used to.

I think that as we age, our interest diminishes, also.

Your decisions are your decisions. Thus, I can't say they are "wrong". I'm just curious as to what has changed? The play on the field has not changed. It's just the frequency of the turnover of the bodies in the uniform have changed. Which is kind of ironic given two of the best players to ever play for LSU, and two of the schools three Heisman trophy winners, came to LSU as transfers.
I played for a program that was built on recruiting and finding under the radar guys with a chip on their shoulder, developing them into good football players, and utilizing solid X's and O's coaching to get the most blood out of the turnip. It was a culture.
Such a program would not be able to achieve the same thing today. All of our best players would have been poached.

Yeah, the difference is lsu didn’t arguably the greatest college football team of all time (led by a transfer)
I can’t tell if some of you are delusional, idiots, or just straight up full of shite

I have. No real interest in buying teams. Players don’t develop into a school’s system and culture. It’s all fake.
Doesn’t hurt that I’m as busy as ever and I’ve avoided the nfl since 2018. I watch maybe 6 swings of the masters.
