re: How many of you are actually giving up on watching college football?

The last 30+ years I rarely missed an televised LSU game and I would watch many other games, especially the marque games on the weekends.
I would attend some LSU games over the years, especially the bowl games in Orlando and I would catch some UCF games on occasions with some friends.
The past 2 years I have watched 3 LSU games, and no non-LSU games.
This coming season, I have zero desire to watch any CFB nor attend any in person and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
My year used to be LSU football - Recruitment/Signing - Baseball - Summer.
I still watch all of the LSU baseball games but CFB is pretty much dead to me.

I suspect people will still watch. I doubt they will be as invested when players are constantly turning over or opting out. I think gradually people will care less and less leading to more apathy.

I may not quit altogether but it will just be a passive viewing, like the NFL. I won't be emotionally invested.
I won't spend money on traveling, etc. I won't watch if I've got anything better to do.
I've gone from die-hard to casual viewer in 2 years.

I'll still watch. But it doesn't excite me now with the transfer portal like it use to. Same thing with basketball.
I'll give you of an example why. Me and my brother (RIP) use to enjoy watching the redshirts and freshman warm up before games, and play on special teams. We'd follow them until they became major contributors, and cheered for them all the way through. It was fun to watch them develop and show out.
Now I can't keep up with all the players coming in, and or leaving. Every year you are required to figure out who's who, and if they are good or not. There's no investment to be made there.

Everyone takes the experience of 5 star QB and puts that on every SEC football player…it’s just not that way. Some kids get paid very little to play.

I’ve been told time and time again, it’s about the jersey in college, not the players who wear them. So which is it?

Can only speak for myself but I watch far less than I used to. Only LSU games and some of them I listen on radio or skip entirely.
Long gone are the days where I watched all day and night. Part of that is the product and part of it is me just not being as interested in general as I was when I was younger.

Part of "the jersey" aspect was knowing you got to watch these guys develop for 4 years and following that. Now you basically getting a new team full of mercenaries at key positions that could leave your team just as easily as they came. I know you're smart enough to understand how that could lead to apathy in a fanbase.

I still watch, but I'm not as enthusiastic as I was even just a couple years ago.

So you’re saying the players have an intrinsic value as well?

It is funny how much of the broadcast now is announcers going over where players played in previous seasons

My Saturdays haven't been monopolized by football all day like they used to just a few short years ago. You can choose to believe that or not, I don't really care much in the same way I don't really care about football outside of LSU.
In my 20s and 30s, I dumped more money than I would like to admit going to LSU football games and tailgating. When my kids got around 9-10 years old and playing sports in the fall, college football took a back seat and I started selling my tickets. After a few years of enjoying football in my den, I gave up my tickets and got into hunting. Now I spend less and less time watching football. My son goes to college out of state, I enjoy going to the games at his school since it is smaller and not as much a business as LSU is now. With NIL deal going in the direction it has, I don't even get upset if I miss watching a LSU game. Too many other things to do in life now as I head into my 50s.

If you want your team to win, yea you need good players. I take it back, you're not smart enough for this conversation.

we all said this shite last offseason and they had record viewership this year. 12 teams mean 20-25 teams are in playoff contention until late Nov so more viewers.

Your decisions are your decisions. Thus, I can't say they are "wrong". I'm just curious as to what has changed? The play on the field has not changed. It's just the frequency of the turnover of the bodies in the uniform have changed. Which is kind of ironic given two of the best players to ever play for LSU, and two of the schools three Heisman trophy winners, came to LSU as transfers.
Perhaps I'm different than most, but college football is just a form of entertainment for me. I don't think the players should be "representatives" of my university, and I don't hold personal grudges if they aren't...or choose to play elsewhere. I cheer for the "uniform". The players wearing it have always changed. Now, it's just a bit more frequently. But as long as they are wearing the colors, playing in Tiger Stadium, and all of the pageantry that existed before NIL/transfer portal is there, I see no reason to stop being a fan.
Is it disappointing as a fan to see a guy play well for you one year, then leave to go elsewhere the next? Sure. But I can't blame the players for doing so. There is a market for their services. I'm not going to advocate for anyone to turn down a significant amount of money SOLELY because it might decrease my entertainment value.

I watch LSU (95% of the time) but I’m barely watching other games and before that would’ve been 100%. I’m doing other things on Saturday now.
So yeah I may still watch LSU but they lost at least one viewer who was glued to the tv from 8amt to 12pm every Saturday for 13+ weeks.

I mostly agree with what you said, but even so , you just want an opportunity to be n a-hole for no reason. I was framing the question for all the imbeciles that say the players are irrelevant. But again, congrats on being an a-hole for no reason, hope it made you feel better

I’m done with it. Didn’t watch a game all last year. Used to love it.

I don't watch anything close to the same amount now, but the largest reason why is the standard growing up and being further away from my time in college.
If CFB was the way it was in 2007, I'd probably be watching about as much. Maybe 3-4 big games a year more.
