Ward is a Super Bowl MVP and will have been in 3 now. I think that will help his case.
And even though he's not in yet, Carter is a lock.

Agreed, but the media and the town you play make a huge difference. More obvious in baseball where guys like Willie Mays and Hank Aaron got a lower percentage of votes than Cal Ripken and Tom Seaver.

Hines Ward
#19 receiving touchdowns
#8 Receptions
#21 Receiving Yards
another season like this past one he moves into Top 15 yards, Top 7 receptions, and Top 10 touchdowns... I think he eventually gets in

yea yea yea i know, he's gonna get in
his 8-12 yard catches and falling on the ground and his crack back blocks on unsuspecting defenders isnt overly impressive in my mind. i also dont think you could ever say that he was the best WR in football, shite maybe not even top 5, i think that counts for something

Sorry I have a life outside of following every fricking thread on TD and watching the NFL like a fantasy football nerd.
I love this argument for being totally wrong on something that is a relatively easy discussion to have. Don't post on a sports message board if you don't follow sports.

TIMEOUT! Did I just read that right? Dude, you're talking about a guy that has won multiple Super Bowls, a SB MVP and is the franchise's all-time leading receiver with more yards and catches than JOHN STALLWORTH AND LYNN SWANN COMBINED, who, by the way, are two Hall of Famers in their own right!!
Ward not a HOF...

It is basically a crime that Carter is still not in. Arguably the second best receiver, but Moss and/or TO may have eclipsed him.

I like Hines Ward but he has zero chance of getting in the hall of fame.
Posted on 1/23/11 at 11:52 pm to DBG
Hines is kind of a compiler. Never once would I consider him one of the top 3-5 WRs in the NFL during his career.

just my opinion, he doesnt pass the eyeball test i dont think
he's gonna get in, but he's the ultimate "meh" candidate if you ask me

It's not really fair to compare stats of WRs who played in completely different eras.

I think Donald Driver falls into that category as well. It's too bad he was kinda dinged up this year.
Here's Hines Ward's stats for comparison.

this
he had a really good career, but if not for his team he wouldn't even be considered. He was never as good as TO, Moss, Harrison, Holt in the early 2000s. And no where near guys like Andre Johnson, Fitz, Wayne, etc at the end of the decade. 2002 is the only year you could make a case that he was a top 5 WR.
