You’re making an unsupported assertion.

It sounds like you want to believe it won’t work. But you don’t have an argument to support that.

That’s tribalism.

It’s a reflexive response.

It’s also a way to feel better about the situation. The league had to. They didn’t have a choice.

They’ll be sullen and resentful when the season starts for other conferences.

There would not be a big ten anymore in that situation

Actually, there would be. If the four teams mentioned left, then their conference name would not be a lying joke anymore. They could resolve their math conundrum.

not at all. I think it’s all been politicized and I want everything to open up and let people have the freedom to decide how they protect themselves. The risk of death is extremely low, far lower than is being reported because so many more people have had it yet are asymptomatic.

I’m merely acknowledging reality - that when there are outbreaks, those players will have to sit for 14 days. Administrators are cowards, and it just won’t work.

Everyone here is commenting on what they WANT to happen. I’m commenting on what I believe WILL happen.

Not long. It’s not like they challenge for national championships on the reg. Yeah, most of their teams aren’t usually eliminated by the end of August, but that’s just arguing semantics. Yet, their league is still around. 2020 isn’t much different than any other year for them.

Unless the ACC & SEC decide to postpone/cancel. This becomes a huge hole for the BIG 10 to crawl out of....it gets deeper if tOSU says screw off to the conference. Iowa siding with BIG 12 would be the death blow because then it gives cover to Michigan to bolt.

If he holds out, Sankey becomes frickin Kennesaw Mountain Landis of College football.

Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Grief
Acceptance

They are still at step one and won’t be at acceptance until well after the season. It’s understandable too, Ohio State was absolutely loaded. I feel for all the fans that could potentially have to cope with no season while other conferences play.

That's the Big 10 PR guys, desperately trying to put out the fires.
They WANT the SEC to buckle, because then it shows the Big 10 made the right move, and did it faster.

If the SEC, ACC and Big 12 play, it shows the Big 10 hit the panic button too early.

There are many things at play, here. Sure, there's politics coming down from state governments, but there's also a ton of booster money special interests too. The Big 10 had been trying to challenge the SEC's total dominance of football, which was why the BCS got killed. "We count, too".

If the SEC can do a season and it works out, that challenge is toast.

no, I absolutely want it to work. College football in the fall is, by far, my favorite time of the year.

But I’m also a realist, and this season just ain’t happening. Sorry to disappoint all the posters here who just can’t accept it, but it’s just not going to happen.

Not saying it’s right or wrong - it’s just reality. And i’d bet my house in it.

Do you honestly think there are raining day funds just sitting in an account collecting interest??

Some schools actually do have reserve funds.

LSU check was what 50 million last. Give me a break with this it’s just money crap

All vested schools in the BIG had $100 million+ in revenue last year including $52 million TV revenue.Their AD's aren't gonna collapse with all these huge state schools with massive enrollments. There will have to be some belt tightening in some cases.

The university presidents have no idea the ramifications they just caused their programs. Recruiting, Transfers, Coaches leaving in droves, money drying up from boosters/no revenue. What they did was just commit suicide for their programs. I hope they change their mind and let them play before it’s to late.

one season lost won’t make the Buckeyes, not the Buckeyes

think of it this way. The Big Ten is 10 teams who are big, plus Purdue, Indiana, Maryland, and Rutgers

Not long. The prospective damage to that league is hyperbolized just like everything else.
What makes these leagues what they are are the universities at the top. Michigan, Penn State, Ohio state and Wisconsin are in large states, extremely well funded, top notch schools, and will have no problem recovering.

Really, because Notre Dame is back and they required all 12,000 students to get tested and provide results. 33, only 33 out of 12,000 tested positive.
And barely a day later, 2 ND football players tested positive and 9 are quarantined.
