I think so too! It makes a lot of sense, especially if he's not feeling the constant pressure that comes with the spotlight at big-time programs. He could focus on building something sustainable, like a winning culture, and still be financially set without the intense media and fan scrutiny.

The stigma around Franklin is he loses every big game. This puts him in a weird spot because he’ll probably want a job at a school that can win a national title, but a school that can win a national title probably won’t want him.

I don’t think Florida will want him because they still expect to a be a title contender. I don’t think Auburn will want him because if he could never beat Ohio State, why would he beat Alabama or Georgia.

Florida State is the school that makes the most sense if it opens. Few big games because of their ACC schedule, still capable of winning a title because of their location, and they’ve likely been humbled enough over the past decade to just want a good coach who won’t lose to Jacksonville State or lose 9 straight conference games.

North Carolina - that is if Bill is gone

Va Tech - I think he would be a good fit there

Auburn - If they get rid of Freeze

Mich State - if they part ways with Smith

Florida - would they want him there?

Anywhere else or not coaching at all?

North Carolina: a possibility however they kinda forced Brown out because he couldn't get them over the hump. I see them (eventually once Bill leaves) to go after a younger guy (see North Texas coach).

Va Tech: this would be the best bet. He can recruit the area and they are desperate to get back to winning 10 games and going to a decent bowl. They could probably hit the playoffs with so many openings.

Auburn: his lack of winning against ranked teams will likely kill any real chance unless Auburn see him as a homerun hire. He likely would loose to Alabama every year.

Michigan State: see Auburn. Michigan State has had a clear idea of what he can do in the conference with a 'bigger' program.

Florida: See Auburn. Plus I think Florida is going to do everything possible to get Kiffin.

I don't think he would fit in at Oklahoma State.

I think his best bet would be to go to Virginia Tech.

If not that he could drop down to a G5 team. Im not sure if he would but a couple of years at a smaller school could help build it up or keep it going.

His record vs ranked teams I think might hurt him but that may not be the case especially if Penn St is willing to go after Rhule.

I think Sumrall goes to Kentucky.

Im not sure if he is ready for that jump. And this isn't me wanting him to stay. He has a problem with his teams playing a complete game. He beat a bunch of bad teams last year and has struggled with teams with decent but lesser talent this year.

Hopefully Craddock get the South Alabama job. Would be the best thing for him.

I think Sumrall has his eyes set higher than Kentucky. My sense is that he wants to compete for national championships

I agree and I'm not saying that you can't win one at Kentucky but it wouldn't be easy.

He is in a good spot at Tulane and he doesn't necessarily have to jump to a program this year to miss his opportunity.

I still feel he should stay another year and hopefully separate himself from Craddock.

I wonder if he would entertain Wisconsin. His style of football is kinda what they were known for.

They’d be smart to hire him. I don’t know if he will want to go due to his affinity for 30A

M State,,, he's got Big 10 experience,e but you'd be admitting that you're a second-tier Big Ten program if you rehired Penn State's cast offs

M State is a third tier or worse Big 10 program at this point.

They clearly aren’t on the level with Ohio State or Michigan in the first tier and they generally are nowhere near the likes of Penn State who are in the second tier.

Franklin isn't going to the SEC, I don't think. Too much pressure, and it compounds the problem he had at Penn State with not being competitive against quality opponents.

VaTech makes a ton of sense, if they can provide NIL resources. I still think they want Shane, though. I'm not convinced the SC job doesn't open up, too.

His logical landing spot is UCLA. Can recruit there but they won't fire you for winning "only" 7-9 games in some years or even in most years. And once every decade or so he will do better, etc.

Maryland

If Locksley doesn't turn things aroud by end of season, he could be out after 2 abysmal conference seasons in a row.

Only potential issue is both Franklin and Locklsey coached together for a few years at Maryland from 2000-2002, and not sure if they are friends.

Forgot about that job. That and Virginia Tech would be good landing spots.

The only thing I wonder about is if they decide to keep the current coach (because of the turnaround) or they try and give Jerry Neuheisel a shot at the job.

If Franklin does go there would Neuheisel stay as OC?

Would be kind of ironic that the team that started the process of him getting fired (I won’t count the Oregon loss as the beginning) is the team he coaches for.

He grew stale and never took the "final step" but he did actually win. Another plus that he could deal with a cult-school like Penn State.
