How is it that a penalty is the "cause" of NO loss?

The Saints were up 13-0, and somehow the refs cost them the game because of one call?
Come on, man. Let's be real here. That call had an impact, but 5 of their 10 drives (not counting the 2 kneel downs at the end of each half) ended in punts, and 2 of those were 3 and outs. They had 290 total yards (sad for New Orleans).
The Saints got into a low scoring game and lost.

I mean yeah. Tons of things could have gone a different way for the saints but if there was ever an example of the refs preventing a win that game was pretty much a textbook example

they win the game if the refs make the easiest PI call in the world
its fair to suggest that the saints shouldnt have allowed for the situation to get to that point and if they dont want to get fricked by the refs, dont give them a chance. but you cant argue against that call playing an instrumental role in their loss today

Yes, because getting the call there gives the saints a first down with less than 2 minutes left, inside the 10, with the other team having 1 timeout left. 3 runs and a fg leaves ~30 seconds left for the Rams to drive down field to kick a fg just to get to OT. The worse no call in recent history 100% lost the game for the saints.

The officiating was atrocious.
Rams #81 slung down a Saints defender, caught a pass and kept one Rams scoring drive alive. The play you are referring two involved not one missed call, but two. Then the Rams int in OT was again pass interference.
